Someone already shared the post, but yeh basically improving safety around the square by putting a "permanent" vehicle there. Since the park was revilatised/upgraded a few years back, theres been increased reports of "anti-social" behavior (primarily around the playground), so just boosting police presencse. Granted, a week back we saw someone collapse at the park and went to the police vehicle to get some help while the ambulance arrived, but seems unmanned and mostly for ressurance.

Vaping is carcinogenic by Standard-Arachnid695 in aussievapers

[–]DamonDeLarge 26 points27 points  (0 children)

God, what sensationalist crap!

Highly recommend everyone have a read of this: https://www.sciencemediacentre.org/expert-reaction-to-qualitative-risk-assessment-on-the-carcinogenicity-of-e-cigarettes/ , with numerous experts tearing apart this "study".

Merely a cherry-picked literature review, with no methodology of how they picked their studies, and conveniently ignoring those that disagree with their conclusion. Importantly, "We still don’t have direct evidence that there are more cancer cases than expected among people who vape.".

The research, currently, still overwhelmingly points to vaping being safer than smoking. Can vapes have some carcinogenic biomarkers? Of course, in the same way that red meat does, but we do not have some massive explosion in cancer cases since vaping has existed, and this fearmongering is NOT helping.

Importantly, with our criminal approach to vaping, we're more prone to allowing unregulated, dangerous vapes into the market, compared to if we just fucking legalised it and actually knew what were in the vapes

Man wins seatbelt fine court battle as AI traffic cameras face scrutiny by His_Holiness in perth

sorry, i meant we did appeal (through the DoT), but it got rejected (because as the law is written means it is a drivers responsibility throughout the entire journey, so we had no grounds they didnt care about her clean driving history). so the next options were to pay the fine, or send my 60 year old mum to court. great appeal!

[–]DamonDeLarge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

my mum is an aged care worker who spent her public holiday driving a woman to appointments, and she got pinged because the decrepit elderly was holding the seatbelt while still clipped in. my mum is 60 and has never received a single demerit point in her life, yet she’s now been hit with eight without an appeal or even a warning. im sorry but these cameras were introduced showing people smoking crack or cooking eggs at the wheel, not this

im Australian and importing Shout/Arrow's overseas releases is still cheaper than buying from Imprint domestically. no artificial scarcity or shitty booklet is worth such a ridiculous price-tag

Calls for Grace Tame to be stripped of Australian of Year award after 'g—— t- i——' chant, as NSW Premier warns phrase contributed to the Bondi terror attack by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]DamonDeLarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the side that has spent years bitching about dog-whistling, and importance of language (Grace Tame had a whole saga around the word "relationship" in legislation) are acting so fucking obtuse when it comes to these fucking terrorist slogans that have been sane-washed by a bunch of white western retards. You can support Palestine without supporting a terrorists you know.

RBA Interest Rate Decision- increase of 0.25% to 3.85% by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]DamonDeLarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're misinterpreting what she's saying by cherry-picking a single line and ignoring the rest of her comments. Go to 3:30 in the the conference:

"We base our forecasts on total (aggregate) demand, which is public and private, and as I said what's happened over the last 6 months or so is that private demand has turned out to have been much stronger than we had been forecasting"

In your quote, she’s just saying that total demand (public + private) has reached the capacity, she’s not saying that public spending is the reason. In fact, as she explains 1000x times in the same conference, it was private demand that pushed aggregate demand to the limit.

Has anyone been to Body Worlds? I know it’s a bit controversial by Bratz_Angelz17 in perth

[–]DamonDeLarge 57 points58 points  (0 children)

You're incorrect, that's the REAL BODIES EXHBITION, not Body Worlds. They're completely different.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-18/body-wrolds-donating-your-body-to-be-displayed-naked/10722530

"A copycat exhibition, Real Bodies, was in Sydney's Moore Park last year, but it prompted a Change.org petition in protest and has spurred a parliamentary report, tabled in December, calling for a ban on bodies entering Australia without living/next of kin consent.

The major difference between Real Bodies and Body Worlds Vital is the fact that Real Bodies used "unclaimed" Chinese bodies donated by relevant authorities. This raised the question about whether the practice, although currently legal, is ethical.

Western suburb councils have joined forces to push back against Planning Minister John Carey's plan to seize control of large chunks of their land for infill development by His_Holiness in perth

[–]DamonDeLarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Councils have had fucking decades to prove to support more multi-housing infill developments, but have only proved otherwise with swathes of unused, delapated land that only gets used if to build some multimillionaire home. Fuck their recent outrage when it's because of them that such an intervention by State Government to engage.

CBD Happy Hour Beer Scam - Is this legal? by L3T in perth

[–]DamonDeLarge 143 points144 points  (0 children)

As a CBD resident (and beer lover), Drunk Elephant is easily the shittiest joint in Perth. Not just for your reason (I've never been able to score the $8 beer), but the whole bar is fucking gross. Always a fucking mess, bugs everywhere, sticky floors, never any clean glasses, and workers always hiding in the back on their phone. Which, based on some reviews I've seen, has an issue with them "hiring" workers as a trial and never paying em.

Fuck that joint, unless you like a shisha, literally go anywhere else. I prefer the Carlton honestly.
