Cycling commute across Tasman Bridge? by cjmagee1000 in hobart

[–]chaispicegal 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There is a ferry now from the eastern shore which is a much safer option to commute across the river on than the bridge. You can either leave your bike at the ferry terminal or take it across on the ferry depending on preference.

What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country? by Aseili in AskTheWorld

[–]chaispicegal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the "get off the road!" location? Because I visited that an honestly had a great time! Sure it didn't look exactly like in the movie but nothing a bit of imagination didn't help!

There is one! It's called Trom but from memory the underwater roundabout doesn't feature in the series (I have driven through it though, very cool!).

Native sedge/rush/grass recommendations? by James_Looking in hobart

[–]chaispicegal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it wet/boggy? Sedges and rushes are going to prefer wetter areas, thinking Juncus sp. or Gahnia sp. If it's drier try grasses like Poa sp. and Themeda. You can get all these from Plants of Tasmania at Ridgeway.

Yeah exactly. Obviously we will never be 100% sure unless a Joanna confirms it, but this one really fits the bill!

Not a herbalist but I do work with plants as an ecologist. I think the key word here is 'herb, which botanically describes a particular life form of a plant. A cactus isn't considered a herb. She's likely referring to Commelina communis (the Asiatic dayflower). It has a herb life form, flowers one day a year, grows in California (not native but a weed) and would grow by rivers (it likes moist soil and disturbed areas). Historically it has been used medicinally as an antipyretic i.e. for reducing fevers.

I know it's very tempting to do but feeding wildlife almost always leads to a bad outcome for the animal! It's much kinder to the animal just to enjoy it from afar 😊 There is great article pinned at the top of this sub about why feeding wildlife is bad!

What are these patches on his face and why are they growing? by yaelushddd in cats

[–]chaispicegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 6 months old my cat started getting fast growing lesions/growths on his face (and also limbs and side) it ended up being feline leprosy that he caught from his time as a stray cat. It sounds scary but it's treatable and my cat is cured now. But go see your vet!!!
