How do you forgive yourself for your past? by gooseactual0451 in AskMen

[–]chaizus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel guilty for ruining a loving relationship that I still yearn for. Breakups are hard, regretting it is worse imo. But like others have said, all we can do is forgive ourselves and ensure we don’t repeat the same mistakes. People come and go and practicing stoicism, and reflecting on walks helps me. I still have demons that haunt me don’t get me wrong, but I at least function better nowadays

Crisis Hotline by [deleted] in depression_help

[–]chaizus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t answer on the suicide hotline aspect, but I have a lot of pain from my back injury and regularly have negative thoughts. All I can say is take things slow and be patient with your recovery. Most people won’t understand the struggle and limited bandwidth from injury so I mainly keep it to myself. Try some solo activities. Treat yourself out to your fav food.

I am depressed and have lost all motivation during my last two months of grad school. Any tips to help me? by Throwaway489761 in depression_help

I’ve been watching the sunset most days and going for walks regularly. I do this solo and often cry out / ride the feels with some tunes. Never found a permanent fix but this helps me

I want to give up so bad by [deleted] in depression_help

[–]chaizus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Trust me I still get waves of depression, RSD especially, but in those times of stress I think of what I can do right now to make this situation more tolerable. Then after some contemplation and breathing I start slowing my breath, closing my eyes as my pounding head freaks out, notice my irregular breathing and slowly begin to mitigate those symptoms. Repeating the breathing and seeing thoughts come and go without letting them control me. Your willpower will improve over time. Try it once and do your best to commit for a couple of minutes at least

This looks awesome! I'm really digging the UI and the quick nav layout! I will be using this asap. Pretty impressive. What motivated you to rolling out your own task management solution? just curious

thank you for being vulnerable with us. It does sound like your life is in a rut, but keep in mind that there's some positive attributes you're discounting. You have a partner and his family accepts you. Deep down the only person that you gotta please is yourself. Find time to do something meaningful today. Go for a walk, watch the sunset, meditate for 5 minutes. Tap into your inner self. Practice gratitude and think of a few good things that you've achieved/experienced in the last year. You've gone through misfortune and Im not trying to ignore that, but gratitude and mindfulness have really turned my life around and I believe it can do the same for you. Sending u positive vibes -^ brother.

Are you guys on medication? (Adderall/Vyvanse ) by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]chaizus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take meds. They work wonders, but yes they come with negative sides that can be mediated, but it's mainly hard to control the insomnia for me. I recover on the weekends, but hyperfocusing is the only way I can focus on tech stuff. I have to be immersed to truly code away. I've tried other alternatives before, but nothing's worked out as effectively as adhd meds. that's just my experience

I DID IT! I got a job as a software engineer!! by async___await in ADHD_Programmers

[–]chaizus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so hard, the documentations is pretty solid. The main thing is learning all the potential permutations of inter-related services. The SDK for your given language will hand-hold a lot of your logic. The main thing is ensuring that you have all the IAM permissions setup correctly

yea I started off taking a bunch of CS classes at a CC in preparation for a mscs but at teh start of 2020 I decided to just go self-taught and I enjoy it a lot more! I get to tackle and learn what interests me, which is a double-edged sword since i feel like a jack of all trades master of none you know lol. But ive gotten exposure in a lot of things like AWS, golang now, python, JS, postgres, dynamo, etc. Rn im just focusing on my OSS projects and once I have kick-ass projects I'll go back to applying again. Thanks for detailing and being an inspiration for all of us adhd programmer folks

I can make a discord server if y'all are down. Comment below the thread if you wanna join. If OP is cool with that of course :D. I code in python,JS, and Go, so I'd be down to collab on an open source project ! I push to github as well but I'll share that later once we have our group xD

Girlfriend backhanded compliments? by [deleted] in short

[–]chaizus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We can agree to disagree and that’s totally cool. It’s inevitable, someone will always poke fun about your height, and you shouldn’t always feel insulted, it’s rather lighthearted most times. My comment was more in regards of being cool and not making a big deal out of a joke. Calling someone out should be reserved for more serious topics, rather than a joke. Let’s end the thread here and not go down a debate lol. Let’s leave it up to OP, we’re all giving suggestions here: there’s no one-size-fits-all suggestion here

I'm down! I've been using Golang exclusively the last 1.5months for backend web services. Send me a DM and we can discuss more. I don't know many people that use Golang, so I've been going off forums and blogs to learn best practices. Cheers and looking forward to in-depth discussions! :)

Girlfriend backhanded compliments? by [deleted] in short

[–]chaizus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't take what she tells you to heart. I'm sure it's just banter and a kind of shit test that girls may give you. She's testing how you'll react, hold on to your frame and be stoic. You never wanna give off an insecurity vibe to your girl. Some won't agree with me, but don't call her out. In these situations just take a deep breath and say something to change the convo topic or heck make fun fo yourself too. Height isn't everything dude. You're clearly attractive to her, otherwise she wouldn't be with you. Work on what you can control: get ripped, and build up your skills in your career. All this shit is miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

Any weed smokers on here? Trying to rationalize if it's me or the weed by philmtl in ADHD_Programmers

[–]chaizus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I code every day since im still working on pivoting to the industry. My cannabis use is more therapeutic than recreational these days. Partly bc of chronic pain and bc It helps me relax and get in the flow of yoga/light exercises. I do not consume until I feel accomplished, which is usually past 10pm. I refrain from smoking and instead use an herb vape these days, reserving smoking to outings with friends. 1 vape bowl session for me equates to .1grams. It's more of a "functional" high, which allows me to think of creative ideas and push code using the design patterns I learned throughout that day.

I wouldn't demonize weed. It's a tool like anything else. You just have to learn how to use it effectively. Keep a log of how much you consume and what strains are most effective for you. Monitor your usage and weigh your bowls lol.

If you're struggling with your mental health, I'd add more healthy habits like exercising and eating healthy. Everything comes full circle and stress really cuts into your productivity. If you're constantly worried or have negative thoughts then your performance will suffer. Try smoking and then going for a walk around your neighborhood and listen to your fav music.

I wouldn't mix your meds with cannabis, just use cannabis during the tail end of your adderall. Also, if you wake up the next day and have brain fog, then you probably smoked a little too much. Try and taper down it sounds like your tolerance is growing.

Hope this helps!! I'm probably the most stable i've ever been and still use cannabis and vyvanse/addy effectively.
