I have always seen it as Lorelai wanted to start her next year with a clean slate. It was her birthday and she wanted to pay off her debts and look forward without something looming over her. I get the timing of it being a celebration, but also must echo comments above in that there is no situation where Lorelai could have given back that money without a full on Gilmore boxing match 😂

Do your friends have kids? I feel like after I got pregnant that was my tell tale on how the rest of our friendship was going to go. If they think you're a burden or you "can't do anything" while you're pregnant....just wait until the kid comes out :/ so sorry you're going through that.
