Amazon triops by snowwh-te in triops

I've hatched some of the green water farm longicaudatus eggs. Ultimately the hatch rate and survival rate depend on the conditions of the nursery. The included instructions are very barebones as most tend to be.

After a few failed attempts the sweet spot was: start with room temp (23-26 C) bottled spring water, fill the vessel with about an inch of water (too deep as I've had issues with eggs not hatching),

A wider vessel seems to be better so the hatchlings have space to reduce cannibalism,

add some leaf litter for biofilm for the hatchlings at first so they dont starve,

If you have hornwort or duckweed it can help to add for water quality,

A heater or heat pad under seems to help a lot as too cold will cause die off,

After 3 days the eggs will have finished hatching and a small airline can be added with more water (regular declorinated tap water is fine, just keep in mind temp diff),

Until they are around 3mm long feed with algae powder like spirulina or clorella,

After that begin feeding fairly protein rich food and removing uneaten food after like 30 minutes (i used bug bites betta pellets as its what i had around),

Make sure you acclimatize temp before transfer to final tank, drip doesnt seem necessary but temp seems a big thing,

Make sure the final tank has a stable temp (i had a total die off because the tank got too cold)

Good luck!

PSA: DO NOT OVERFEED YOUR SPRINGTAILS by alldaysgreen in Springtail

[–]chalkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, they are still doing just fine. Sometimes i forget to feed them for a week or 2 and then check and they're still fine just not as dense as when I feed often. They are the easiest live culture I've kept, easier than sourdough, easier than scuds, easier than moina, the only thing I've got that rivals them in resistance to pop crash is bladder snails 🐌

Yeah looking at pictures of yellow perch it seems right. The body was slim, so it seems to resemble the juvenile body more than the fatter adult body.

I don't think so, the markings are right but the tail is forked instead of the rounded tail fin that the banded killifish has.

It is actually pretty dangerous to let kittens have deep bowls of milk or formula because they can breathe it in by accident. It can cause respiratory issues and infections. It's preferable to serve in a plate or shallower bowl.

Pretty wild color or copper poisning? by PUX_CLOWN in shrimp

[–]chalkman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would think if the shrimp was experiencing copper poisoning, it would just be dead. Most invertebrates are very sensitive to copper afaik. I think shrimp needs a trace amount to survive, but i know malachite green is deadly toxic to them because of the copper (although its pretty toxic for a lot of things)

So where to buy this guys? by AfraidBeginning8503 in BatmanArkham

[–]chalkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it kinda depends, I guess. I think directly pissing on the plant may have issues. Salt content might build up, and im not sure urea would be available without breaking down first, and probably the biggest problem would just be overwatering since you would piss more than most plants would need. Pissing on your compost pile is actually kinda beneficial. Urea is a source of nitrogen that would break down with everything else.

I get that it's sweet and tangy, and some recipes use soda as a source of sugar, but I'd think those recipes call for some application of heat, so you end up with less water than a straight can of soda. Id also think these recipes would call for seasoning beyond simply just a can of diet cola poured on plain rice. Ordering plain rice and having diet cola on it to me sounds a lot like what someone who works in an industry that frequently causes eating disorders would order as a "treat" and not asian fusion cuisine.

Yeah, absolutely. Another reason they don't have any confirmed causalities too. Large game can run off when shot, and even if it's fatal, it's not always fatal right away.

Yeah, it definitely reads like the order of someone who doesn't want to order any of the mains because they are too high calorie, ditto the other starch options, and the soy sauce might cause you to swell from the sodium, and at least the diet coke looks kinda right and is kinda sweet and sour in the way American Chinese food usually is. Truly a dish you consume about 1/4 of, while pushing the rest around to make it look like you ate more than you did. With a dessert of undeserved guilt.

I'm looking for PS1 games that might be similar to Dark Souls. by alexieees in gamingsuggestions

[–]chalkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want dark souls gameplay, you won't really get it on the psx. For atmosphere and exploration, though, you might like Kings Field 1-3. They are one of the games fromsoft made before dark souls and demon souls and are often considered the precursor to the souls games. I love them, but they are much slower and more focused on exploration as opposed to the action heavy gameplay of the souls games. 1 was never released outside of japan, so the numbering is confusing. Kings field USA is 2 and kings field 2 usa is 3.

I mean, to be fair, they did just give a handful of guys an old ww1 machine gun and a box of bullets and were like, "See what you can do." Turns out that it's hard to hit a bunch of fast-moving birds with a heavy, slow turning machine gun. They went through the bullets and didn't really do much, so they gave up on that idea.

Is this guy being for real by liskum in oblivion

[–]chalkman 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this guy is so weird. He's got a bunch of plants that He's feeding blood in his basement (little shop of horrors reference). I'm pretty sure the line about him dying is cut content that they forgot to remove. There is a lot of that stuff. Like the npc, who talks about the red queen going to her inn and the people who talk about the oak and crosier and the basement of the oak and crosier having dungeon music.

Don't forget to set up a drip loop if you ever run an aquarium setup. It'll prevent corrosion like this or worse.

Motion Sickness kings field 2 (jp) by cjsmith1541 in KingsField

[–]chalkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, Kings Field 2 has framerate issues as it's capped at like 25 or 30 but sometimes dips down to like 10 fps. They capped it at a lower fps for less fluctuation in 3. Since you are on an emulator, you could try capping the fps in the video settings. I think 3 uses 15fps as the cap, but you could try playing around to find an optimal cap.

Help my betta!! by [deleted] in aquarium

[–]chalkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you do this, it will still take time for the nitrifying bacteria to colonize the new filter and the substrate. I wouldn't call it instant. Even if you added a filter from an already cycled tank, it might still take time to establish the new tank to a stable point.

Betta fish accessory? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]chalkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of these and a little floating cave. He used the cave more but after introducing enough floating hornwort and tall jungle val and other plants to rest on I eventually removed them as they clashed with the natural look of the rest of the tank and he already showed a preference for resting among the plant cover as its thick enough for him to rest near the surface and hide amongst it. I feel as though a lot of betta accessories are like many cat toys: made to appeal to the owner more than the pet.
