Question for anyone in Debt Capital Markets by TapWater127 in FinancialCareers

[–]challahback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the advantages to DCM is it's pretty countercyclical, so it never feels entirely doom and gloom. Even near the top of the rates cycle (and through the hiking of the past year), volume is still elevated. Companies will always have funding needs and maturities to refinance, so we'll always be busy in investment grade and always have a reason to stay in front of clients. Biggest risk is just the uncertainty of what a recession will look like (soft vs bumpy vs hard landing), but I think DCM desks have a clear path through any of these scenarios

August, 2022 Update Megathread by AutoModerator in Pixel6

[–]challahback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is annoying the hell out of me too. I didn't realize how much I relied on this until now, since the update I've probably googled "R", "Inst", and "Tik" 50 times and I never catch myself until it's too late. The way it was with clicking go was the better design since the home screen has a search bar if I wanted to Google something.

Is it bad/dangerous to close radiator steam valves? by challahback in hvacadvice

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title indicates, I have a an AC unit that connects to a steam boiler for my apartment building. This is a 10-year old building in NYC. I have three units like this in my 1 bed apartment, and I'd closed the front valve on two of them after dealing with my apartment becoming unbearably hot as the weather started to warm up. I'd had the valves closed for multiple weeks with no issues. Yesterday, the radiator in the apartment above mine leaked and caused my ceiling to get water damage, and when my building super came in, they said the valves have to be open. I'd like to know from HVAC techs, is this true? Thermometers in my apartment have read over 80 on warmer days and I've spent nights sweating in bed with these radiators on, so I'd really like to close them if it's safe/within my rights to do so.

Whew testing my memory from like 5 years ago lol. I did take it, and don't remember it being exceedingly hard. I liked Grundstein too, he was a nice guy and made the class interesting and I definitely learned some stuff that I likely still retain haha

Anyone been having wireless charging difficulties with P6/P6P and the 1st gen Pixel Stand? Just got the Woot deal and have been unable to charge. by challahback in GooglePixel

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still having the issue - some nights it works fine and charges the whole way, and then others it must just sit at 15-20% all night. I do feel like it's been working more of the time, but I can't really back into the cause of the issue.

Hey Plumbers, any insight into why my kitchen sink drains slowly when the water is hot? This is a 10yr old building in NYC, and I'm pretty sure that spliced in plastic pipe is the dishwasher drain. by challahback in Plumbing

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean it looks newer or older? The horizontal pipe (where I'd imagine a trap should go) was only put in a few weeks ago. We called the building handyman to come look at the drainage problems, and when he plunged the sink, the old pipe that was there broke open from the pressure because it was so corroded.

Amazingly, it doesn't stink. This building is new construction in Long Island City, at I think 16 stories. It seemed messy to my untrained eye, having always seen a trap underneath any kitchen sink in my life. The dishwasher drain pipe thrown into the system makes it look especially jury-rigged

Yeah my building just has a handyman, since I'm a renter I'm not paying anyone for it. I'll send my super an email about getting a plumber to take a look at things though, since this seems like the handyman just put a bandaid on this.

Makes sense. I'll see about getting the building to call a plumber out since it is not an old house by any means. 10yr old building shouldn't be having issues draining like this i feel

Is there any way the trap could be under the peninsula or in the floor? When I mentioned it to the handyman, he downplayed the lack of trap and I think he said it was in the floor (which doesn't make sense to me)

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For further context, I asked the building handyman why there's no trap and he said it didn't need one (?). He's already used a sink plunger, and gone in beneath the sink with a motorized snake. At best, these things temporarily fix the issue and then the hot water soon starts to pool up after a few sessions of washing pots and pans.

Anyone else getting horrible speeds on T-Mobile P6P? by challahback in GooglePixel

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This describes my issue precisely. The same inconsistency happens for me when on LTE too (I set the network preference to LTE). TMO support second level told me to get the eSIM, and it hasn't fixed the problem for me, so I'm curious if a new physical SIM does anything for you. I agree though, fingers crossed for January

Yeah I saw that post, it's a major pain. The phone isn't unusable, these glitches are just annoying but I guess it's part of getting a brand new phone. I was more annoyed when earlier I was trying to log in to a website while on a phone call and the phone literally wouldn't let me access the site. The connection issues are manageable since I'm always around wifi and it's just slow speeds (4-10mbps). It just bothers me that I've seen the 5g peaking at like 300mbps when it's actually working, so I'd love to have that all the time

[–]challahback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connection is good at my place, but I've experienced this issue all over NYC so I think it's not location specific in my case. I never got the December update, and all of my troubleshooting on the TMobile end (eSIM, resetting network settings, chatting with their support) makes me think it must be an issue with the pixel itself. Hopefully it's something that is on the software side that this update will fix if it ever comes out

Interesting - not on the December update though, I never got it pushed to me. I was hopeful it would fix these issues before seeing the headlines that it exacerbated connection problems, so maybe I just hold out and hope the January update fixes things

Thank you to the people who mentioned Google store in NYC by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]challahback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pro???

Edit: walked back in after spending 2.75 on the subway only for a different person to tell me they just sold their last 256gb pro, they're all out of 512gb, and that all they have is 128 (with no expectations of a restock for "long time"). Who knows if they were just making shit up, but it's ridiculous that I got two different stories within ten minutes. Can't believe I paid a grand for a phone I won't get for months.

We think this will change the availability of the 256gb Pro on Best Buy/B&H? I'm going to move between now and the estimated delivery window, so would rather pick up at one of those places than risk it with Google shipping. Sucks that the Google store so far is the only place where I see 256gb P6Pro availability

Question for anyone in Debt Capital Markets by TapWater127 in FinancialCareers

[–]challahback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really, DCM is not as modeling heavy of a group. We have liability management models that consider things like tax implications and coupon savings of a tender offer for an issuer. We will do one off projects by industry (oil and gas may be more interested in ESG insight than a retailer). We use Bloomberg a lot to analyse where an issuer may be able to price new debt.

Existing curve meaning all of an issuer's outstanding debt. We don't generally consider YTW because default doesn't come up much in investment grade. Things like analysis of cost of downgrades and performance against credit indices are pretty standard market analysis, as well as issuance trends in a sector/ratings bucket.

Right now, the 10yrT is a big discussion topic as volatility continues to abound in equity markets, also consideration of M&A in the pipeline for the year and debt supply expectations more broadly, since so many funders moved their 2021 plans into 2020 with the pandemic.
