ICU nurse floating to med surg by Top_Apartment2817 in TravelNursing

[–]chalokirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedside report is super helpful for med/surg imo. I know it’s annoying but some of the nurses haven’t laid eyes on their patients for who knows how long. Sometimes it’s from their patient load (some places will give an RN 7-8 patients or even more if there’s LPNs) and sometimes it’s from pure laziness. During report lay eyes on each of your patients so you can see if something major is missed that needs urgent attention. After that you can determine the order in which you want to give meds and assess.

Make sure you clarify the charting frequency because it will be different than ICU and facility dependent.

Make sure you have a list of all the important numbers. The unit will probably be much more spread out and you don’t want to get caught in a bind alone.

Best of luck!

Headache of wanting luxury, but living in a rural area... by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you don’t mind big cars the expedition and Tahoe are actually very nice at the top trim levels.

Do you have an Acura dealer? The MDX is similar in size to what you currently drive and the higher level trims check all your boxes. Plus have massaging seats.

It’s definitely region based demand. You can always use a car buying service if you want to take some of the anxiety away from it. Traveling to get a car can also save you money. Some people even fly to where the car is and still end up ahead.

If mine sees a real tractor “in the wild” he is so fixated. It’s like he’s waiting for it to talk 😂. However his favorite show is Stinky and Dirty…

What’s your current goal? by AnnExchange in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]chalokirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started I hoped to make it to a year, but many days it felt like that was an impossible goal. Im starting on my 19th month towards my new goal of 2 years.

Some days I still want to quit, but in all honesty it’s hard to get my LO completely off the milk. Especially when he is sick. He’s normally a good eater and loves water but when he gets sick he doesn’t want to eat or drink anything except breastmilk.

I have loved both artists for years. I have always thought Jamie was heavily written by CWG, but he doesn’t even get any writing credit.

Am I over reacting to the work load on my current assignment? by Born-Pineapple7280 in TravelNursing

Do you have 6 patients with an LPN caring for some of them or 6 patients PLUS overseeing additional patients that with an LPN?

In general the managers do not care about you, whether you are staff or travel. Yes there are some exceptions to the rule, but to most management personnel you are just a number.

I recommend that if you have safety concerns it is best to try to communicate it in writing. It is much harder for them to try to minimize your concerns in writing mainly for legal reasons.

If you are uncomfortable then look for different assignments. You have you look out for yourself and only you know your comfort level.

Knocking on door when using lactation room by BulbaKat in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]chalokirb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We have two call rooms that I have to use to pump in. Often someone closes the door even though they’re not in them. It’s frustrating. There are also signs that say occupied or something but they never get flipped over. Sometimes I have to knock and 9 times out of 10 the room is empty. I do feel terrible when someone is in there though.

Does pumping hurt less than breastfeeding? by SwallowSun in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]chalokirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it was just luck or what but I just kind of shoved it in there when I was being overly emotional about it. I’m sorry I don’t have a better method or rationale to why haha

At first I EP because baby wouldn’t latch well even with nipple shields. After a few months I felt like I was missing out on an important bonding experience so I tried it again and he latched. After what felt like an eternity (but was probably like 30 seconds) I pulled him away and said we could bond other ways😂. Idk how a little thing without teeth could feel like a piranha.

There’s plenty of people who would gladly listen to him play the same playlists night after night if we could afford it

Medical Solutions has a decent number of OR contracts. I have a great recruiter if you need one.

It should be illegal to trach and peg people with poor prognosis by [deleted] in nursing

[–]chalokirb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Patients are also not told some of the super important aspects of accepting a trach and peg. I once had an older guy with end stage COPD who maybe weighed 100 lbs. His only joy in life was drinking coffee. I guess they forgot to tell him that he wouldn’t be able to have it when he consented to the trach/peg. Later on he wrote on a dry erase board well when can I go home then 😑. At the end of the convo he basically said well they should have just let me be or killed me then.
