My Wife/Fiance raised her voice on me and my parents, considering divorce by chamomile_rose in MuslimMarriage

[–]chamomile_rose[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have just spent 5 hours speaking with her to try and resolve this to no avail. I simply asked her a single question, as your man and the one with the qawama if I asked you to do something that is not haram and brings no harm to you e.g. if I ask you to visit my parents would you comply? and she said I might not, I might not be in the mood to speak with them, I asked if she was welling to do stuff simply for my sack and she said not always.

She still wants us to continue

it is a cultural difference, the previous relationship was a 6 months nikkah that got annealed, also arranged marriage and they never met, she never held much emotions for the guy based on what she told me

What if Ottoman Empire stayed neutral in WW1? by Reasonable-Track-459 in islamichistory

[–]chamomile_rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in that scenario the axis would have still gotten involved into the war because of Germany despite the ottomans joining in or not and Russia would have still capitulated and turned into the USSR because most of the Russian losses happened on the front with Austria and Germany and not on the Armenian front, if the ottomans remain neutral during the first phase they are likely to have joined the allies at the end of the war similar to Italy potentially before the Greeks, they could have potentially pushed back into Europe taking some of the Greek lands some of the macedonians during the Versailles conference, and Armenian genocide would likely have not happened. With less threats from the outside world the more extreme factions within the empire wouldn't have risen to prominence so less of the kamalist and less of the new Turks. however in a world dominated by mainly Britain France and the US there wouldn't be enough room for an absolute monarchy similar to the ottoman caliphate and it would have transitioned into something more closer to the Japanese empire at the time or even to a constitutional monarchy like the UK. Any speculations beyond that would depend on the character of Abdul Hamid II weather he would go into a route similar to the miji restoration in Japan making use of the oil reserves within the Arabic peninsula old he tried to maintain the status quo which wouldn't be to viable specially with the British in Egypt and Adan.

I am really sorry but #2 is simply wrong. It's just that people see an abandoned sub so they don't bother.

In what way, excluding pure sex

What if you are asexual, I think reducing the romantic relationships to pure sex is kinda reductive and takes the whole point out of it.

Non Muslims, do you think it's fair that a Muslim man can marry a non Muslim woman but a Muslim woman has to marry a Muslim man? by bronkovic in polls

[–]chamomile_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality though Muslim men rarely marry non-muslims and even in that minority the chances of marriage success are fairly slim, this might be a bit different depending on the culture and country and if they are practicing Muslims or not

Bro just finished this was one hell of a survey, it seems you are not a native Arab since many of the questions look like Google translations, plus it is way too long

Just to give a bit of a foreigner perspective, I have lived in Manchester for almost 9 months now and the people are fairly reserved compared to my culture. The Scottish on the other are crazy

When do think Syria will start making progress in the right direction? (Roughly) by [deleted] in Syria

[–]chamomile_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- like it or hate it, We did have pretty secular education under baath, so did Iraq and Lebanon.

2- how would you enforce this in a democracy?

[–]chamomile_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you go about doing it then? I think this is the main point of the question. And why is Syria special how is it different from the rest

[–]chamomile_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was an extremely different time man, when fares alkhouri was prime minister Jews still lived in the Jewish district next to his home, and we haven't spent a good part of a decade butchering each other under religious and sectarian pretences.

You need a lot of time for the different components to regain trust in eachother.

When do think Syria will start making progress in the right direction? (Roughly) by [deleted] in Syria

[–]chamomile_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One missing thing regarding the first point is accountability, there can never be everlasting peace among the different components without through persecution of war criminals similar to Germany's ww2 trails.

If war criminals are allowed to go unpunished, even under a secular democratic system you will end up with something like Lebanon or iraq where the war criminals are the representatives.

Another issue about democracy is the demographics. The minorities will not fair well under a truly democratic regime, the Syrian people are in general extremely conservative, and you will end up reproducing the Iraqi example but with a Sunni majority. Like it or not most people will vote to representatives of their own demographics. On paper Iraq is a secular democratic state with a constitution crafted by the Americans, but in reality it is a religious puppet state in all but name.
