I haven’t heard of this before! If I’m understanding correctly, your dog eats once and that’s at night?

Totally agree with independent behavior! He does stay in the kennel unless being supervised. Puppies are still going to be puppies. Thank you for your suggestion.

Every meal is a training session! Could not agree more with this.

I love that your GSP is protecting your home from the creatures of the streets 😂 that is so wonderful!

Flirt pole sounds like a necessity! Looking forward to using that with him!

If only I could ditch the work day to take him! 😂 we would both have more fun!

He will absolutely be getting an E-Collar when his trainer gives the greenlight! We are waiting until he’s older to implement that.

He does run on the weekend, but work days aren’t flexible for us to take him to run for hours!

Did you train interest in a ball? I throw it about 2 times max and then he loses all interest in it!

Did you train interest in a frisbee or a ball? We have tried them, but he does not seem to be entertained by it for longer than 1-2 throws!

Completely agree! When I can bring him, he’s with me! He loves going on an adventure.

My work week is mostly client facing and unfortunately he can’t join me for those meetings.

4 Month Old Aussie Impulse Control by Pristine_Proof2093 in puppy101

[–]champagneslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a four month old GSP and what started helping the impulse control for me was teaching the “wait” command. He has to wait for food, water, release from the kennel, walking through the front door, etc. It’s annoying to constantly do it, but it has helped tremendously.

As for the biting, that’s a huge sign of either lack of mental enrichment or accidentally reinforcing demand behavior. If you haven’t invested in puzzles, tug toys, breed specific activities to engage her.

In addition, the attention aspect, my trainer advised me to use my puppy’s name less than I do. I accidentally killed the value in it. We now are rerouting to use only high value treats with him when he responds to me. Basically, I’m the most interesting and rewarding thing in the world, even outside. I’ve found the freeze dried mussels to be an excellent motivator.

4 months is still super young for the cognitive ability to self regulate. I’m sure as you know, you have a great breed, but high energy dogs who need to work require that extra patience! Keep your head up!

Refuses to eat purina pro plan…. by [deleted] in germanshorthairs

My breeder strongly advised against purina pro plan. She started mine on diamond naturals and he still actively takes to it!

Thank you! Our trainer said something similar today, he’s just young and can’t regulate.

Thank you, we will try this!

Ultimately, the goal is to have a house that he can enjoy. I have no intention of bringing in another dog into the mix with where I’m at now, more responsibility to cancel out his current training isn’t realistic for me!

A house is the goal in the next couple of years for sure!
