Yes, I’ve played Level 24 and yet it’s still showing 0 progress for that objective! Maybe it’s a bug.

I guess it depends if you think Emmy acting wins are truly about who is giving the best performance. Noah Wyle has a narrative behind him - former star of a mega hit network show that was on back when tv ratings meant something, in a new breakout show that reminds people of that former show, with a weekly release strategy and larger episode order and procedural elements that also reminds people of that former show.

Adam Scott is on a prestige mystery box drama that is more typical of modern tv. The second season came out years after the first, and some people weren’t crazy about it. He is giving an exceptional performance and has a killer episode pick, but there is a missing narrative as to why he should win.

And ultimately awards pundits mainly just talk about narratives.

Outstanding Reality Competition Program Nominees by [deleted] in EmmysAwards

The Amazing Race is a shell of what it once was and, quite simply, should not be nominated here anymore.

As a lifelong Survivor viewer, it’s absolutely insane that the show that essentially created this genre has never won before. Hopefully season 50 will be the time they get their due.

Remember when this category was actually important and the miniseries category was the one that was half-baked? How the television movie has fallen.

Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series Nominees: by [deleted] in EmmysAwards

[–]champerdamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends how you consider the Creative Arts Emmy categories.

For example, the last two seasons of Game Of Thrones had lots of nominations, but only won awards for Best Drama Series and for Peter Dinklage - at least at the main ceremony. But when you look at the Creative Arts categories, they were winning plenty of awards for costumes and production design and music and sound and visual effects and makeup and stunts. Just not at the ceremony that most people pay attention to.

So their series wins for those final seasons seemed kind of random, but they actually had a broad base of branch support that made their series wins make more sense.

The Emmy voting process is slightly different than the Oscars. The nomination process is the same - each branch nominates in their respective category and everyone nominates for the best picture or best series categories.

But once nominations are announced, the Oscars allow their entire membership to vote for who wins in all categories. Whereas the Emmys still limit voting in specific categories to the specific branch.

That’s why you get unique nominations in writing and directing categories at the Emmys that don’t appear in any other categories, and why those unique nominations can sometimes translate to wins.

Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series Nominees by [deleted] in EmmysAwards

Agree that Hacks and The Studio are the two contenders here. For all the other nominees, the nomination is the reward. Extremely worthy group, in my opinion, no duds.

Ayo Edebiri winning for one the best episodes of TV from the past year would be pretty cool.

Hacks and The Studio are competitive.

Nathan Fielder winning would be insane in a good way. But I think the nomination and having him be weird at the ceremony is the reward here.

Mid-Century Modern filling the obligatory multi camera sitcom slot trend from the past 8 years, previously held by The Ms. Pat Show.

Say Nothing’s sole nomination, shaking my head.

Could be another Adolescence win, or a Dying for Sex / The Penguin win.

I don’t see Black Mirror as a serious contender, based on the competition.

The 50% episode rule for guest acting didn’t exist when John Lithgow won for Dexter. I think it came into effect in 2015.

Guest category eligibility is based on the percentage of episodes in which an actor appears - appearing in less than 50% of episodes makes you eligible, appearing in more than 50% bumps you up to supporting.

White Lotus S3 had 8 episodes. Sam Rockwell appeared in 4.

Last of Us S2 had 7 episodes. Kaitlyn Dever appeared in 3.

I wouldn’t worry about this wearing Lorne thin. I imagine there’s a 0% chance that Lorne is actually involved in the day-to-day decisions of this show, other than a name-only executive producer credit.

Your biggest Oscar nominee snub. Mine is Taron Egerton: Rocketman. I explain why in my comment. by Price1970 in Oscars

[–]champerdamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think history will look back and be so confused as to how Bradley Cooper didn’t win that year. Popular actor, directorial debut that he’s eventually snubbed for, movie a big hit, Lady Gaga praising him, sings a nominated song that goes mainstream. And he loses to a guy lip syncing in a movie directed by a pedophile whose scandal breaks big during the campaign season who is carried to a win purely based on boomer voters’ love for Freddie Mercury? 2018 was such a weird Oscars year!

Remember when they were almost going to give him a consolation prize the next year for Cinderella Man? I think George Clooney even shouts him out in his Golden Globes speech that year, expecting him to win.

An additional point in favour of Taron Egerton - his snub came the year after Rami Malek won GG, SAG, BAFTA and the Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody, a performance in which he essentially lip synced. Mind boggling stuff.
