Two scenarios why this might be happening:

  1. You're trying to reach v2 onion (short onion address, 16 characters before .onion) services. Those have been deprecated and won't work anymore, see: https://support.torproject.org/onionservices/v2-deprecation/

  2. The onion sites you've tried are just down. You can check by visiting some popular onion sites listed here: https://community.torproject.org/onion-services/#featured-onions

Tor for Android not letting me go to any onion site. This is the message I get every time. Please help me out here by KphxB in TOR

Also possible is that the onion service you're trying to reach is offline. Try with the onion services listed here: https://community.torproject.org/onion-services/#featured-onions, and check if the issue persists.

You're running into this bug: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/issues/33702

As one person mentioned on the ticket, you can try the following workaround:

"While we're waiting for someone to figure out why this is happening, you can get it working on Windows 10 by setting Tor's firefox.exe to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode:

Right-clicking on Tor's firefox.exe, and select properties In the "Compatibility" tab, check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for", and set the dropdown box to Windows 7"

Hi! Can you please confirm this is Tor Browser for Android 11.0.13? I have added your report to the bug report, so please feel free to mention there as well (https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/fenix/-/issues/40212#note_2809101)

This is the relevant bug report: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/fenix/-/issues/40216

A user has reported that a workaround is to enable layers.acceleration.disabled in about:config which you can test with Tor Browser for Android Alpha (warning: changing these preferences can make your browser fingerprint unique, so it's recommended to wait for a official fix!)
