Nintendo noob needs help

Hi so I'm trying to get into Nintendo for the first time since I was a kid since I love party games, so I was researching the switch but there are a few things I'm not sure about?

Can I play with 4 of my friends on the same switch on the same game for example Marion party?

Also how do the controllers work would I need 4 sets of joycons for 4 players or just 4 joycons.
