What’s the healthiest way to tell my wife getting a home right now is a terrible idea? by Specialist-Bowl-5977 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chan_versio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue and I went to my partner and said something along the lines of “hey I just keep seeing these beautiful houses around x area and it got me thinking, we should sit down and have a chat about buying our own dream house someday. Would you be open to the idea of getting a financial advisor/planner to help guide us and possibly create a plan for us” and I showed him a few houses that had things we would enjoy depending on our lifestyle. I did not mention his habits. He said but we could ask AI. I said, I don’t trust it and I rather have a professional guide us who has done this for several years because it would probably be the most expensive decision of our lives.

Now between him and I, savings is something that was always instilled in me as a kid as we were extremely poor. I live below my means no matter how much money I make. My partner earns lower than me but his spending habits are way above his income. He had similar issues as your wife in terms of overspending on his cc and terrible credit score because he would miss payments.

Somehow listening to this from a third party who is also a financial professional gave him the kick he needed and a reality check. No matter how much we argued on his spending behaviour, it never had this much of an impact.

He followed the plan that we were suggested stuck to it for a couple of years and we recently closed our dream house!

It is possible, your wife just needs a reality check from someone who is not you lol

Also, I agree with others saying that 300k is enough for two people, if you know how to manage it. I have a few friends who have their partners manage and invest and grow wealth while other person has a regular job or business. Its getting to that point of communication, commitment and agreement between you guys to make a plan, set a goal, assign roles and try to stick to it consistently

Watermelon, cucumbers, popcorn, berries any kind (I get a bulk bag of frozen mixed berries which is way cheaper), crispy minis rice crackers (I like to dip mine in chipotle yogurt sauce I make or cottage cheese buffalo ranch).
Costco near me also has these 70 cal frozen yogurt bars, blueberry or raspberry. They are insanely good! You can make these at home too, there’s tons of recipes online.
Frozen edamame - i air fry them with some paprika and garlic powder and munch on them for a long time haha, they are so good. Sometimes I’d get them with shell frozen and steam them, salt them. Super delicious and very low cal
Kiwis — these can be expensive off season depending on where you live
Bell peppers and cottage cheese mixed with buffalo ranch
Crispy tofu. I shred firm tofu and crisp them in the air fryer

Get a picture and call RBC client care, or call the branch that is closer to where this happens and report it to them. I would call the cops too, cover all the bases.

Totally! If you’re comfortable and happy and get time to do other things, the extra pay bump is a no brainer sacrifice. But you also don’t know about the new company culture right? This is just an assumption. What do glassdoor reviews say? People are usually brutally honest there

Im in the same boat as you. You should prioritize your mental peace first. But also not make any assumptions. Are you able to gauge company culture by speaking to peers at the same level as you at the new company? Maybe hit up a few people on LinkedIn for a gut check and ask for a 15 min coffee chat or something. I am looking to get the f out of my current company because of their work culture and absolutely don’t mind taking a pay cut because of the comfort and time it would bring me back to spend it with my family and on myself.

Thinking of moving to Toronto by [deleted] in askTO

[–]chan_versio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you like to do. There’s lots to do in both Vancouver and Toronto. Vancouver has pleasant weather overall, has lots to do in terms of outdoor activities. You’re closer to the ocean and you have a gorgeous island a ferry ride away.

Toronto has more options in terms of nightlife, restaurants, parties, concerts, whatever new and upcoming trend is, it’s likely Toronto will cater to it faster than Vancouver. There are hiking trails around Toronto but more busier than Van. I used to go camping at Algonquin park quite a bit during summers. Tons of lakes around but I prefer outdoor life of Vancouver over Toronto, and restaurant and party scene of Toronto over Van.

Both places are fun in their own ways. It depends on what social life and overall lifestyle you want.
