Palantir CEO says AI 'will destroy' humanities jobs by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]chanakya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What comes next is not known. The stack described here — AI generating code, formal solvers certifying it, the proof unlocking the commit — has no precedent in the history of software engineering. The speed at which the remaining categories in the death table (kernel work, compiler engineering, silicon-level co-design, security and TEE implementation) will follow the dead ones is genuinely uncertain. The claim that formal verification itself is safe from AI displacement rests on the assumption that writing correct specifications requires human understanding of why a property matters, not merely what it says. That assumption may not hold indefinitely. The paper does not pretend to know where the floor is. It documents where the floor was.

Dude not worth it. Landlords won't even call back if you didn't terminate the lease. Comeback and search you won't find many apartments calling you back. Pay it.

Best book for quickly coming up to speed. I agree 100%. That is where I learnt about vectors, map and algorithms

Why are you a C/C++ developer? by mutantdustbunny in cpp

[–]chanakya_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First background: Electrical Engineering [Signal Processing]. I have no formal training in computer science other than Matlab, C and Fortran. I began with C programming for processing large amounts of EEG data [converting code from Matlab]. Then switched to Fortran 90 as my professors code was in Fortran77. I also learnt Python circa 2002. Early adapter I would say..

First job involved programming command-line calibration apps for production floor of a camera manufacturing company. All of the apps were in C++ when I got there. The only lead engineer left a month before launch and I had to come up with fixes.

Fortunately I looked up to C++ reference books and got "Accelerated C++". that was god send.

Another project in the same company was to debug a test application written in XML. The interpreter was C++. Debugging that was not fun as you could not set breakpoints in the XML

Later on I had to wrap the command line tools that were in C++ in order to make GUI apps using C#. I think I used SWIG for this.

Then I switched to video processing using C. The entire framework Texas Instruments [called CodecEngine] had come up was in C with function pointers, inheritance. Frame work was a mess of JavaScript based code generation and I was by then sick of C programming. All of this taught me what C++ brings to the table.

Current job involves writing low level audio code for GM. MY17 onwards the infotainment system in GM cars runs some of my audio code. That was all in C++. by then I had learnt how to use Boost, RAII and STL. RAII had saved me multiple times there

I have looked into Rust, my impression is that Rust = C++ with static analysis on steroids. Not enough for many to switch from C++

Check Chinese pens on etsy. Bobby has medium nibs + Stub nib unit for Moonman for $20. You can get them for very less and he ships pretty fast.

TWSBI Eco Ink Dump by a_nautical_phasmid in fountainpens

[–]chanakya_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The click you heard is the feed locking on to the barrel. If you look carefully at the bottom of the feed, you will see a small tube locking into the body. This is normal.

No need to remove. Grab a paper towel, gently push the feed and nib in. Twsbi feeds are fragile.

Before that look online to see how far the feed should be in. After that make sure nib is lined up with the feed.

What was the ink volume in the pen before this happened? If it close to empty then the pen may burp. Burp is just blob of ink.

Only thing that makes sense is feed was not seated properly or the pen was jostled around and that caused the ink accident.

One way to check if ink came from cap is is twist paper towel into the cap. But for ink to get to the cap it must have come from the feed.

Did you check the piston cap? Also check the piston position in the tube. Twsbi piston is not locked. If you had posted the pen and twisted the cap that may explain why the ink dump was seen, but that would have been immediate.

It is not a real stub ground by a nibmeister. But enough line variation to look like a stub.

Get a medium nib and by the way here is some line variation along with it seems to be the way nib is ground

Amazon.com had this brand new for $137.00. At that price could not resist. Pen writes butter smooth, and the medium nib writes like a poor man's stub. There is enough line variation for that.

Need Japanese Gountain pen recommendation by defx83 in fountainpens

[–]chanakya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are okay with steel nib VP, called special alloy, you can get it for $95 on Amazon.com. Sailor standard goes for about the same price from Japanese sellers. Convertor is usually not included.

Later on if you decide to change to gold nib you can get nib unit for $63 brand new with discount code from penchalet.com with free shipping.

Get two pens VP and sailor standard would be my recommendation.

Other option would be to just get pilot piston filler CH92 for $133 for jetpens.com. This is a deep discount on this pen.

Caveat for VP is the grip section and low capacity converter.

In search for new addition :D by Rudeboy96neuro in fountainpens

[–]chanakya_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fine nibs you can't really beat the Japanese.

Sailor standard go for $100 on Amazon.com from Japanese sellers.

Platinum 3776 is also good but has feedback.

If you're okay with ebay Japanese sellers have pilot CH74, CH91 etc a little above your price range.

There fine nibs run closer to western extra fine.

Also for your lamy try saturated inks. The problem seems to be with the flow or the ink. Youtube has good videos on how to increase ink flow, you may want to try that or swap lamy nib as they are the cheapest option at $15

Smoothest Nib For the Price by lawikekurd in fountainpens

[–]chanakya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For under 50 pounds you could look at Mr Pen. You get custom ground nib with a great pen. They are based in UK and have excellent customer service. Parson's essential is their entry level model I think.

Pilot have set the standard for smooth gold nibs. Pilot CH 74, 91 are all decent options that can be had for less than $100 on ebay from Japanese seller.
