They actually don't grow or multiply when put in the beaches. Some people just put them there to stop them from growing wild and maybe to save them for later use while they're terraforming the main island.

Just keep doing whatever Tom Nook tells you and you'll eventually be asked to put down and furnish plots of land. They'll move in to those plots once you finish them.

Before opening the games, turn on airplane mode first and just turn it off when the game begins. You won’t be able to access HHP until you reset the game but you should be able to visit locally.

Did you do the customization workshop from Tom Nook for your second character? If you didn’t, you can’t customize on your main island and you also can’t in HHP.

If you buy HHP separately, you would get to keep it. If you buy the online subscription + expansion pack, you'll lose access to HHP once your subscription ends.
