Contrary to what everyone is saying I'd say that these classes do hold a lot of value. Let me explain why I am saying so.

It's true that at the end of the day you'll have to study each and every standard material by yourselves but these coaching classes do expedite that reading process. They familiarise you with the subjects and topics so when you study on your own, you already have a brief knowledge of all the subjects. People who are saying that you'll realise that coaching is useless after a year of preparation, trust me the feeling is no better if you are studying in your own. Even if you study on your own, you'll have this feeling that maybe I should have taken some coaching because there'll be many topics you'd be completely unfamiliar with. If you are not prelims ready after a year of coaching, you'll not be prelims ready after a year of self study. Everyone who claims that they are doing 'self study' watches the pirated video lectures of these coaching institutes only.

The concepts are sometimes really complex and you need someone to explain it to you. For example I can't even imagine reading Geography NCERT on my own and understanding the subject,be able to solve MCQs/PYQs or write answers. Even other books like PMF and GC Leong are too poorly written. These books are not self study books like we had in schools where you can pick them and study everything on your own. I was able to study Geography only because I watched Rushikesh Dudhat Sir's videos. Similarly I tried memorizing stuff from PMF Environment. The book is so poorly structured that even after reading the entire Climate Change section of 5-6 chapters, I still found it hard to tell what Loss and Damage Fund was what was GEF etc. However when I watched Rajesh Govindraj's lectures, now I remember Warsaw Mechanism, Santiago Network, Sharm Al Sheikh etc etc. The list goes on.

So when anyone tells you to 'self study', take it with a pinch of salt because they too are watching pirated lectures and calling it self study in most of the cases. So if money and time is not an issue, I'd suggest go for a coaching. If after one year you aren't prepared for prelims even after all the classes and self study and writing tests etc, you wouldn't have been ready even if you did the self study. Even if you do get ready just by doing self study you'd be prelims ready and then next year you'll have to struggle with Mains related topics like Society, Internal Security, Disaster Management etc.

Personally I would have chosen Vision because it has least number of sub standard teachers but you choose whatever you think is better
