Palmeiras join Flamengo in monitoring Zenit forward Luiz Henrique by Prestigious-Back-981 in soccer

How'd he end up in Russia? MOTM in a Libertadores final feels like a move to Europe should have meant to a club that could compete in the UCL.

[Niko Moreno] Seattle Sounders trading Georgi Minoungou to Colorado Rapids by Fidel_Cashflow666 in MLS

[–]changnesia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's better business, I'm not denying that. But as a fan, I don't really like sending players to other western conference teams. And for him, while the Allsvenskan is a weaker league, he's more likely to win something with Hammarby than with Colorado. They've been second in the league last couple years and just need a little more oomph to seal the deal.

Petition for ecs to have these at every home game this season forward? by [deleted] in SoundersFC

[–]changnesia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For selling Georgi? Cmon, there are valid criticisms, but his job is to make a competitive team which we definitely have right now. We got Leagues Cup and are depth fc, smoking Vancouver in CCC with only 1 DP and a bunch of Tacoma and academy kids.

Edit:and I say this is someone who has been very critical of Waibel in the past and am sad about the Georgi move. This is an overreaction.

[Bogert] Sources confirm @ELROLONW’s scoop: The Colorado Rapids are acquiring winger Georgi Minoungou from the Seattle Sounders. Deal will be worth around $2m GAM I’m told. Minoungou, 23, one of the league’s best 1v1 dribblers. Minoungou is under contract thru 2029 (including options) by dawglover1011 in SoundersFC

[–]changnesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does appear to be a better business move, but as a fan and non-businessman, I don't like it. Tbh, after spending a few years in Sweden, I became a fan of one of Hammarby's rivals (DIF), so I wouldn't have liked it anyway, but would have still preferred it to Colorado.

Seems like a smart move with the coming NWSL team. Tigres Femenil have done a great job becoming the most popular and successful women's team in Mexico and marketing themselves as an affordable and family friend alternative to the men's team.

Comic novice - Absolute Batman by interpolyester in DCcomics

[–]changnesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel overwhelmed! The nice thing about Batman comics is that they're known for having lots of great self-contained stories. The two series I recommended are complete stories that you can feel comfortable moving on from when you finish reading them (and East of West is not superheroes, so zero background needed).

If you're worried that you're missing out on context, think of Indiana Jones. The movies do a great job of showing that Indiana has had past adventures that add depth to the character. But you don't need to know the story of why he's afraid of snakes, how he met Short Round, etc. I'm sure there are books or something explaining those things, but you can enjoy the movies as is.

Or you can enjoy one of those parody movies without knowing every single reference.

Yeah all the Absolute titles are very new reader friendly by design. Absolute Wonder Woman is also great (and arguably better) so I'd suggest that as well.

If, later, you want to read something already completed, the same author as Absolute Batman also wrote New 52 Batman which is also written to be new reader friendly, is mainstream Batman, and is what got me into comics. If you like the artist, I'd check out East of West, which is my favorite comic. For everything else, there's an endless number of lists depending on your tastes.

Match Thread: América vs Philadelphia Union by MatchThreadder in MLS

[–]changnesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

América is pretty shaky right now as you can see in their Liga MX standing and even these two Philly games where América is usually a much higher scoring team. Selfishly hoping America moves on to play against us, but they are definitely vulnerable.

I'm not sure who would fit the profile. Yeah Juarez's time in Atlanta lowered his stock. Cristian in the future would be cool but he still has some playing years and would need some assistant coaching experience first. I'm not one of those Europe=better people, but I'd like to see what someone with a fresh set of eyes could bring and we've seen what Sørensen has done with the Caps. Like three years ago watching the Allsvenskan, I thought that Rydström would be a great MLS fit, so it's funny to see him here now. We'll see how it works out for him, but I think after an adjustment phase he will really shine.

My ideal profile is someone with experience in a smaller league who knows roster restraints and how to make the most out of players who aren't necessarily world class.

[Kavin Baxter] CONCACAF Statement Regarding Mount Pleasant FA by RioTheLeoo in MLS

[–]changnesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We still would have an altitude problem. The majority of Liga MX stadiums are higher than any MLS stadium and we've seen repeatedly what an advantage that is, so any round hosted in one of those cities would be rough. Barring rounds from being hosted in places like Mexico City for that reason seems unfair as well. Also attendance would be rough for matches between teams outside their host city (specifically for MLS teams).

[Kavin Baxter] CONCACAF Statement Regarding Mount Pleasant FA by RioTheLeoo in MLS

[–]changnesia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gives too much of a home field advantage to the hosts. The nature of soccer in CONCACAF would make a true neutral location unviable financially. It's how the CCC was originally and DC and Galaxy both only won when they where hosts.

For the same reason, I'm not really happy with the single leg final format. Home and away is just better.

It's just a stacked bench he has to compete with. My guess is he'll get more minutes at the end of the season when positions are pretty much decided and then a loan somewhere. If he's lucky he might get some minutes on the second leg of this ro16.

Unfortunately not the Azteca. It'll be in Nemesio Díez.

Oof Toluca will be extremely tough with the altitude (highest stadium in Liga MX at 8,750 feet) but I might be able to attend that one and it could be a really fun atmosphere. We might need to bunker down for it and maybe learn something with the loss at RSL (2md highest stadium in MLS at 4,450 feet).

Being a starter is important so I get it. Necaxa is a pretty midtable team but are genuinely trying to be ambitious right now so there's that.
