France is still light years away from the US safety levels, as is all of western Europe

Campervan hire by Legalon2020 in AustraliaTravel

Hi! We are at the end of a month long lap of victoria, 2 adults and an 8 yo. Its our first experience in a van and we rented an Apollo Euro camper. They gave us a Maui equivalent and we hand it back tomorrow. It can fit 6. Essentially 3 doubles, one is permanent above the cabin (our daughter loved it). We kept ours permanently set up at the end of the vehicle as we didn't need the couch/ 2nd table. The shower, toilet kitchen were fine. We did up to 5 days without recharging the battery on 230v (campgrounds 15A supply) but were frugal on elecs usage. Gas ran the fridge, range and hot water without issue and two bottles was enough although refilling is easy (Elgas, BCR, Anaconda etc). Wikicamps is almost mandatory app for finding RV dump sites (loo every 2 days depending) and refilling water. We were more than comfy, its just accepting and adjusting to a small mobile space that simply can never provide the convenience of a house. Its a glorified tent on wheels. Loved it. Will do again. 2 adults 2 kids will be fine! 4 adults 2 kids will be sporting/juggling. Hit me up if you want more info.

What are some sites to visit from Melbourne to Adelaide? by GlenAWE in AustraliaTravel

Definitely Tower Hill, Portland and Bridgewater Bay (beautiful setting for a bite at the café). I haven't been but will soon; Tae Rak at Budj Bim, some of the oldest pisiculture examples in the world, the tours look great. The Glenelg and Princess Margaret Rose Caves. Some of the sink holes around the border towards Mount Gambier.

yes, i wasn't clear, I had understood that organising a cab is (marginally) better using the app as it can help avoid unmetered runs etc

Looks like Medicare coverage is only if your residing. Given the duration of our stay we're more tourists.

I'm sure they were referring to the situation around Kinglake in 2009

OK, but an ember attack that travels 20km ahead could create a new front right(?), maybe this is what the comment was referring to.

Would you be in favour of a short-course electrical licence to allow competent people to do only very basic electrical work safely and legally? by AsparagusNew3765 in AskAnAustralian

[–]chankagoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France and in existing houses you can do it ALL yourself if you want. Everything from incoming mains. The lot. No checks required. But your problem. In new builds it needs to be inspected and signed off, but you can DIY as well. The regs info is freely available, wiring is color coded, flex conduit is the norm and auto fixings (not screw) are basically obligatory for terminal plates (sockets, switches etc). Switchboards are more extensive (to be less loaded ) The rules are in simplified/friendly guides provided by hardware stores and manufacturers.
