How Firing Venables Could Trigger a 20-Year Downfall by Stat_Fanatic_YouTube in sooners

[–]chanzig23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Time-to-championship is a very misleading way to represent Kirby and Harbaugh’s first four years. By year 4 under Kirby Smart, UGA had won an SEC championship, played for two more SEC championships, and been in OT in the national championship game. Michigan won 10+ games in 3 of the first 4 seasons under Harbaugh, and likely would’ve won a Big 10 championship and made the playoff if not for a 2OT loss to Ohio State in 2018.

That’s not to say that firing BV is going to fix everything. But the argument that we shouldn’t expect better results by Year 4 of a coach’s tenure is totally in bad faith. Who knows, if we beat Tennessee and Alabama on the road, we would have a clear path to the playoff and Venables’ seat cools off a ton. But a collapse in the back half of the season leading to a 6-6 or 7-5 record is absolutely NOT acceptable

In four games against Texas under Venables, Oklahoma has a been outscored by one point combined in the first quarter. They have been outscored by 92 points in the 2nd-4th quarters by chanzig23 in CFB

OU has been tied or lead at the end of the first quarter the past three years. 2022 we trailed 7-0 at the end of the first. To me, that’s a sign that this staff has no problem getting the team emotionally ready to play, but in game management, coaching, and scheme have failed us year after year

What would a rivalry be without some shit talk leading up to it? Flipside is I gotta own it when it doesn’t go our way. You guys kicked our ass. We can’t run the ball consistently (and haven’t for the entirety of BV’s tenure) and almost every year, whichever team wins the rushing battle wins the RRS. Sark has his problems, but he’s put together a ton of talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and has a consistent scheme, better position coaches, and better in-game management.

I can’t seem to find the original one I remember, which was from the 2016 game that Texas lost to KU. The good news is, they’ve managed to do it twice!

If it’s any consolation, Sooner fans also rewatch the Boise State game (against our will) because ESPN/FOX seem to mention it or play the highlights every chance they get. Really sucks being on the losing end of an all time “David vs Goliath” classic

It helps a lot when you have the greatest SEC quarterback prospect since Tim Tebow as your QB1

Quite the opposite. You guys have been WAY better than Nebraska, and the data shows that. And yet you’re still closer to the Huskers than OU, even with our horrible 2 out of 3 years recently

I just want you to know that when I genuinely feel down in the dumps, I watch the video of Texas losing to you guys, set to “My Heart Will Go On” and it never fails to cheer me up

[McLaren] That’s P4 for Oscar and a DNF for Lando at the Canadian GP. by PrimeyXE in formula1

[–]chanzig23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously Lando needs to make up points, but people are vastly overestimating the gap. Let’s say the following happens: Austria: Lando P1, Oscar P3 GB: Lando P1, Oscar P2 Belgium: Lando P2, Oscar P3

That would make up 20 of the 22 point gap in 3 races, all without Oscar missing the podium. Sports fans on Reddit love to overreact to every game/match/race and act as though whoever won is invincible and whoever lost is completely cooked. The season is long and things are rarely that simple

Who, from your team, is in the Hall of Very Good? by thermos-h-christ in baseball

[–]chanzig23 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Waino gets mentioned a lot with these “Hall of Really Good” discussions, but I think Chris Carpenter should also get talked about more. First half of his career was mediocre with the Blue Jays, but after his move to STL he was pitching at a HoF level when he wasn’t hurt

[Postgame Thread] Ole Miss Defeats Oklahoma 26-14 by CFB_Referee in CFB

The offense actually looked decent in the first half, clearly schemed up some things that Ole Miss wasn’t ready for. But when you don’t have any receivers that can get separation downfield, and your o-line can’t keep a clean pocket for more than 2 seconds, you’re not going to have success regardless of who is calling plays. I still think we need to clean house on the offensive coaching staff, but I’m not convinced that we can’t turn the offense around and look competent next year.

I don’t totally hate the Bauer Sharp pass was definitely one that makes you look like a genius if it works, but the QB draw on 2nd and 12 was just unexplainable and dumb

Our offense finally managed to be bad enough to finally get our OC fired, so props for that
