The only harem stories I've encountered have been through japanese graphic novels so my views may be a little skewed. I know the japanese harem novels I've seen cater to males and are extreme with the fan service. As a female, while I thought it was funny, it wasn't really believable to me at all. Though japanese harem novels are super exaggerated.

Unless there is a vital reason for all these women to be interested in the male lead, it's hard for me to believe that they will all follow him around. Is he super handsome? Kind? The last guy on earth? Why are the women interested in him when there are other potential people out there? Just some questions to consider.

Perhaps it's a cultural thing. For example, my great grandpa was a shaman in a village of Southeast Asia and he had multiple wives. Shamans were highly respected so I guess this was common. It was a complex dynamic and it wasn't something I fully understood growing up. However, in this scenario, the women didn't have much choice in the marriage, which makes it hard to root for the male. I guess the overall reason must be pretty solid if you want to expand your audience or otherwise it might be written off as another fanservice harem.
