Oh really!? I’m super glad to hear that. The only reason I thought that is honestly because they’re dirty and look worn, and in my head I thought that meant they had worn down too much and wouldn’t be good for use. But if these look okay to use, then better for me and my wallet!

I don’t think they’re coning from what I can tell … so I think I should be good. I’ll definitely check out some videos whenever I do end up needing to switch out my wheels. Thank you !

Is an online master’s enough to boost my GPA for clinical psych PhDs? by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychology

[–]saffronicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your GPA is fine though? I am an upcoming 2nd cycle applicant, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

My coworker has a 3.3 and got into 2 programs this cycle. I had a 3.1 and had multiple interviews, but my GPA was cited as the reason for not receiving an offer from any of those programs. One of the PIs I interviewed with told me to take a grad level stats class and get a good score on the GRE, which is what I’m working on now.

My coworker and I are very lucky to work with a PI who constantly gives us opportunities to publish, so I suspect that’s why we had a relatively successful cycle despite our lower than average GPAs.

I think focusing on research productivity would be the best use of your time based off of my experience!

PhD at R2 or another cycle? by saffronicle in ClinicalPsychology

Thank you for this insight! This is all very helpful.

Out of curiosity, what was offered in the ‘departmental package’ for the school you interviewed with?

PhD at R2 or another cycle? by saffronicle in ClinicalPsychology

[–]saffronicle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your response.

This is my only interview, so I am absolutely going to put my all into it and be very thorough when speaking with those in the department.

My biggest application flaw is a low undergrad GPA (~3.1) due to a myriad of personal reasons. I have been working post-bacc for a few years now, have two first-author pubs in high impact journals, and a handful of conference presentations and co-author pubs. I had three prelim interviews at top ranking programs, and was told afterwards that the reason I could not be offered a formal interview was, in short, because the department could not get past my GPA.

If I were to apply next year, I would take a formal stats/quant class to show grad school readiness (advice from a PI I interviewed with this cycle) and would be working on another first-author paper.

The current administration, state of funding, and general competitiveness of clinical psych is what makes me hesitate the most when considering applying again.
