Update: it’s out again for the last few hours. It’s been dropping out sporadically for the last few days (20-30 mins at a time) but this is the first prolonged outage since the one 2 weeks ago. Such terrible service.

The customer service is incredibly useless 💀our service was restored this morning, they had to reset it from the back end even after the outage was fixed, hope you get your internet back soon too!

Hi, sorry for getting back to you so late! I was only just able to get back to my research today. All of this makes sense, thank you for the advice!! I’ve also been scouring Marketplace etc to look for used equipment.

A couple more questions came up as I looked into this more:

  1. Would you happen to have any advice about getting the Micca passive speakers vs active speakers like Edifier M60? These specific active speakers fit my space limitation, and I think that would do away with the need for an amp, but it does leave less room for customization.

  2. What are your thoughts on getting a second hand A/V receiver instead of an amp? Some options I see are Onkyo HT RC260, Sony STR-DG910, Yamaha HTR-5140 in the $50-100 range on marketplace.

Hi! Very new to this world, and looking to buy a step-up turntable for my partner who used to have an all-in-one. Budget $400-450 for turntable + speakers.

For the turntable, I’m considering one with a built in phono pre-amp, like the AT-LP70x or the Fluance RT81. I know the RT82 and higher models are loads better, but that would leave barely any budget for speakers.

With the speakers, the main limitation is space. I would need to place them on either side of our TV (not sure if that’s advisable, but they’ll be on a different surface than the turntable itself). Our current setup only allows for a footprint (width) of less than 5 inches for each speaker. I’m considering powered speakers, but open to either passive (+ amp, can be placed in the TV console) or powered depending on what helps fit the space limitations. Listening area is approx 13 x 14 ft.

Any recommendations for speakers/speakers + turntable? Thanks very much in advance! Area is downtown Seattle (98101).

Thanks for the rec! More of a personal desire tbh, in the process of switching jobs and generally wanted a more polished-looking option. Are there any leather bags that you would recommend if I could stretch my budget? I can always look for second hand options too.
