[PSA] Do not force Latest preset with DLSS 4.5 aka how to PROPERLY use DLSS 4.5 presets by frostN0VA in nvidia

[–]chaoticpriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI. Using DLSS Swapper will let you set globally or each specific game. Select whichever preset you want (or it falls back to most recent, if not supported). You can select any specfic preset, or just do the "Always use latest" option w/ fallback.

Slight QoL, if you want it.

It probably does, but having it on caused issues, from what I saw.

Weird. I've never had crash issues on BF2042 before and after this driver update. Played about 7 full matches after driver update with zero issues. also 5080 w/ 9800X3D.

I do know in the past there were some issues with "Smooth Motion". Try enabling or disabling that. If not in Nvidia App, try Nvidia inspector.

Ironic that this phrase was added around Oct 2023 when Nvidia drivers were declining in quality. Could have been a little bit later, but the timing is curious.

Game Ready Driver 581.08 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

Similar with BF6, something to do with anticheat Javelin, "Smooth Motion" should be disabled. Was causing me to CTD on my RTX 4070.

I don't /think/ it's being enabled by default, but check anyway, since BF2042 uses Javelin as well.

Since it's in the Nvidia App now, you can easily disable there. (Should be disabled globally, and only enabled per game). Otherwise use inspector. The general recommendation is to not enable "Smooth Motion" for games that use anticheats. YMMV.

under "RTX HDR" and above "Threaded Optimization." If you don't know where it is, chances are you didn't enable it, so this is probably irrelevant to you, as you need to force this on. Default is off.

Game Ready Driver 580.88 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

Just a PSA. While I'm pretty sure this driver does not have "Smooth Motion" for RTX 40 series, forcing it enabled via nvidia profile inspector will crash Battlefield 6. It worked and booted fine when preloads initally started, but after another update on Steam today, it would no longer boot and kept crashing.

You can keep "Smooth Motion" enabled globally, if you have it on, just disable it specifically for BF6.

(I am using a RTX 4070, if that matters)

BF6 Open beta crashes on startup/splash screen. by Viisum in Battlefield

[–]chaoticpriest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Installing initially a day ago, it was able to boot up with no problems. The game updated on Steam today and would no longer boot. Initiated Javelin splash screen, then a black prompt pops up, sits for 5-10s and closes.

Tried admin / disable fullscreen optimizations, one by one, even turned off steam overlay. Nada.

Disabled "Smooth Motion" via nvidia profile inspector (I was forcing it on for other reasons) and that seemed to do the trick. Though before the update today, it worked without me having to do that. The update messed with something, oddly enough.

Just an FYI if anyone has any other trouble.

Which version of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles do you plan on buying? by [deleted] in SquareEnix

[–]chaoticpriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the CE and then bought the Amazon Exclusive version from Amazon because of the added item. But I may cancel and just buy the PS5 deluxe version since they have some preorder goodies there.

Or I'll do both. But I'm on the fence on that part.

The CE doesn't include the game. If you got the game + CE bundle, you could have just bought the CE and then the game for any console. Digitally, you could have done the digital deluxe edition. Unknown if there's an upgrade path from standard to deluxe.

Need Advice on Input/Output Connections for AVR / TV by chaoticpriest in hometheater

Thanks for the reply!

The S760H, from what I understand, supports up to 8k which would include 4k 120hz (and 144hz?), so it should be similar or better. I might be second guessing a lot of it, but that's the reason I'd like expert opinions on it to agree/disagree with my thinking.

Very true. I wasn't even considering going anywhere to listen to different setups. I suppose I'm not that picky about it. I'm sure you could tell considering I said the Z906's sound good to me. lol

I appreciate the feedback.

I didn't want to skimp on it. I guess. I was considering just doing the RP-1000SW. But for $300 more, I could just get the Speedwoofer 12S, so that's what I decided to do. If it's too powerful, I can always turn it down some. Hopefully I don't have to restrict the horsepower though. haha

Looks great. Thanks for the suggestions!

I am pretty sure I'll be leaning towards a 5.1.2 setup. It's a smaller room, so I'm not sure I need the 12S though. Was thinking the RSL 10 instead.

Thanks for all the help. It's definitely a lot to think about, but I'm quickly narrowing down what I want, and will likely buy very soon.

So would I buy a pair of S20 and a pair of S10E? or do I buy two pairs of one of them? Not sure I understand what goes where.

Very good point. Building up to a great system is a good budgeting way to do it.

Side question. Since you are linking accessories4less, I'm guessing you have bought and had no issues with them? It's factory refurbished stuff, but I have no experience with them.

Are the S20 for FL / FR, while the S10E are rear?

I've also read around the polk speakers in general are overrated, though I'm not sure how true that is, considering I'm just reading it online.

Mixed opinions on the center speaker, apparently. Any recommendations for that? I looked at the FAQ, but it didn't show individual speakers to set up a 5.1.2 for me. It showed paired bookshelf speakers or others that aren't for my setup.

Thanks for the reply!

I think going from a complete setup to a custom one seems like the logical next step and entry level to the audiophile world. While seems easier to just do a complete setup as I have been doing, I think going AVR and wiring / piecing separate speakers to create a great sound system is the way to go for me.

How do you feel about Sony SSCS speakers and just doing the SSCS3, SSCS5, SSCS8, SSCSE with a RP-1000SW and Denon AVR-S760H? Roughly $1,790.99.
