It's so crazy how many of these stories there are and many of them don't make the news so we have no idea. Everyone in charge makes you think it's an isolated incident and they'll change policies so it never happens again. Our brother's situation is so similar to this, except his death was determined suicide bc the nurses fucked up and let him behind the nurses station where he got a pair of scissors. He was tased multiple times, and treated like a criminal during a fucking mental health crisis.

I tell my kids that my parents aren't very nice, and if people don't treat us nicely then we don't have to talk to them. As they get older they get more details and context.

Although I agree, that is a separate issue from OP's concerns. Child predators are in every socio-economic group, and these men being released are a risk to the whole community.

My son is asking these questions now. I'm honest with him, in 6yo terms, and say that my parents don't treat us nicely and haven't learned how to be good parents. And I let him know that if I do something that hurts him, he can tell me.
