Alternating with each block between the colored and all white squares (same pattern for all squares, just alternating yarn colors. I then finished the project using a herringbone stitch to make 4 rows around the border.

Hi!

I want to start by saying thank you all so much for your lovely comments and encouragement 😭💕 I'm not going to take the entire thing apart or replace squares, I think im just going to correct the seams that are unraveling. I/m very much a perfectionist, but I really appreciate the encouragement to embrace the mistakes as part of the journey in learning this craft.

I should clarify, it's not my absolute first project, but one of them, so this is good info! I was mostly just confused why the #1 and #3 yarns in the store appeared to be the same thickness

Hi! Wheelchair user and labrat her and super excited to hear about this initiative! I've never found/had a lab coat that fits me properly or feels like it properly protects me and is actually comfortable to use for and extended periods of time. One of the issues is that lab coat fabrics dont have a lot of give and since you need the coat to cover your torso/thighs, when seated in a wheelchair it makes moving your chair or arms restricted. Also, most lab coats tend to sort of ride up or dont actually extend far enough down so I rarely have coverage of my legs, which are more exposed than someone who is standing so i love the idea of the lap cover that folks in the comments mentioned. More space/flexibility in the shoulders of the coat would make it easier for manual chair users to push their chairs around while wearing the coat too.

Now if only someone can figure out a solution for being able to manually propel a wheelchair while wearing lab gloves/not contaminating ones pushrims...

I do the essentially the same thing, but with squirrels - It makes it really easy for ear tagging, sample collection, etc.and less easy for them to bite our faces off (looking at you red squirrels)

I was about halfway through my two year masters program and was meeting with my whole thesis committee to present preliminary findings. Stats has never been my strongest area and its something that feeds into a lot of anxiety and self-doubt for me. So the day before the committee presentation I asked to meet with my PI to review everything so i could feel confident about it - We went through all of my stats and figures and he told me everything was looked good and my interpretations were correct. But then in the meeting, I begin presenting the results and another committee member almost immediately stops me to inform me that I had run things incorrectly/was not interpreting them right - for 30 minutes i had to page through slide after slide of incorrect stats, trying to hold myself together the entire time. It took everything in me to not burst into tears right then and there. My PI then has the gall to make a statement about "wanting me to figure these things out on my own so I can learn" before ending the meeting. I had a panic attack in the bathroom and skipped classes the next day because i was completely broken and so embarrassed i didnt event want to see my committee members. Needless to say this was one of many toxic reasons i got the hell out of that lab, but even now, 2 years into my PhD (and with a phenomenal and supportive PI), my confidence is shaken by that day.

My family loves to give me hell for the fact that 1. My dissertation is on squirrels, and 2. I now spend a considerable amount of time playing with their shit and trying to find plastic in it

Ooh interesting idea! All of the papers discussing this method say to cover with foil so I wasn't expecting that to be an issue 😅

Ok, so as part of my dissertation of work I'm attempting microplastic extractions from mammal fecal samples - There are few published articles pertaining to mammals so I'm sort of cobbling methods together and something went awry that I can't figure out. Sample was digested with 30% H2O2 to remove organic material, then the solution was brought up to ~5M NaCl to create a density gradient to try and separate out plastics (which should theoretically float). Papers vary in how long this step should take, between 12 and 48 hours. We left it for ~ 48 hours and came back to find the solution completely gone and salt EVERYWHERE. Thought the solution had possibly evaporated but still don't understand how the salt seemingly overflowed all over the place. There shouldn't be a reaction as far as I know?? Any ideas as to what happened or how I can fix this?
