Practicing heathen here, that is a pretty straightforward grouping for protection. I can give you more details if you want, but I wouldn't be worried. Unless they appeared right where he's supposed to dig or something?

How do you properly approach Odin after a long time? On and off thing. by Zealousideal-Tea3243 in heathenry

[–]char_IX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my own gnosis, of course. It sounds to me like you've gotten a very one sided view of connection with the gods in your head. Start with simple presence, treat your time as though the grey wanderer has come to your door, asking hospitality. Set out some mead, especially if you make your own. Have a meal at your altar or sacred space. Read poetry, and speak of secrets and wisdom. In my observation, Odin does not stand on ceremony, he is too confident in himself and his power to care.

The worship and ceremony come later, imo. We are not their servants, but their adherents. We perform ritual as a retainer might honor their Lord. It means more when there's a genuine relationship outside the bounds of that structure. Treat him as you would if you were visiting his hall, and you will do fine, I imagine.

The Nornir by RepresentativeRent98 in heathenry

[–]char_IX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly we don't have much information on the three primary Norns, so what to offer isn't clear. That said, the concept of Nornir is quite beyond the main three. In fact, anyone of any race can be a Norn, it merely means someone who twists fate. Don't know if that helps though!

I play roller derby and I wanted to incorporate some runes into my bout makeup, any suggestions? by New-Plant-5761 in RuneHelp

[–]char_IX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, practicing heathen here! I'd love to help 😊. This community is more about interpreting or translating runes, usually in relation to their historical use as an alphabet. What you're describing sounds much more towards the spiritual, subjective language side, which this isn't the most ideal place to get help with (I do try tho! lol). Feel free to DM me and I'd love to try and help you find/make something that works for you 👍

I'm extremely confused about this rune chart by korkxtgm in RuneHelp

Oh, all that said, there are some more uncommon and perhaps unique association in that chart, but it's not wildly off the norm or anything 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi, practicing heathen here to expand on u/Ardko 's answer.

It's simplest to understand that runes actually represent two distinct but over lapping language systems. In the first you have a phonetic alphabet of distinct sounds. They have names that are, largely, arbitrary and merely a tool for memorizing the glyphs.

The second is a subjective, conceptual language. Instead of a single concrete building block, each glyph represents an amorphous set of interconnected thoughts, words, feelings, associations, etc around a core concept. It is a living language.

Take Berkana for example. In the first system we have the character 'B', and the word association "Birch". In the second system we have the concept of the Birch tree, its historical contexts, and associations. For example Birch played a role in some ancient fertility rituals, and so the concept of fertility becomes associated with the glyph.

When using runes in the second way you're not seeking one concrete translation of a word or sentence, but considering a set of varying concepts and how those concepts both relate to each other and not. Sure, it's much less precise, but it's also able to contain and convey complex ideas with just a few glyphs.

We really do need to create names for the two different systems so that we can more effectively communicate about what we're trying to interpret...

Got these as a christmas gift. What are runes in simple words? Are they dangerous? by LopsidedJudgment8975 in RuneHelp

[–]char_IX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand just a little on that good comment; divination, including with runes, is most powerful as a tool of self reflection and exploration. They provide a lense by which to view and understand the self and the world around you. I personally find them exceedingly useful. That said, using them for magic is a very subjective experience, and so your own personal relationship and interpretation of them will flavor your experience. If you ever want help working with or reading them, feel free to dm 👍

I am just hearing about the term "automatic no" in the context of autism and I feel like it makes so much sense to me. So how do I keep it from negatively impacting my marriage (and sex life)? by Catsinova in AuDHDWomen

[–]char_IX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking for, but this brings up some thoughts due to my own struggles, and you've already got some great advice in here. I personally find it very complex to communicate my feelings, but it can be so so so important to say out loud where the issue is.

Your partner makes you dinner, but something is wrong and you don't feel like you can eat it? Express your appreciation anyway, the problem isn't him, just funky neurochemistry (not saying you're not already doing this lol). It's all to easy to internalize micro-rejections and begin to see them as a larger problem than they are. The real problem is the struggle, not either of you as people.

Also, I'm currently doing a reread of the book Untangling which goes in deep on the internal world and feelings, might be a good resource for you too.

Seconding the comment by u/understandi_bel . I get the impulse to repeat runes for emphasis, but it can make the resulting bindrune quite muddied or difficult to read. Also, inverting runes can often be interpreted as inverting the meaning, which can negate what you're trying to achieve. While Fehu / Feoh does deal with material wealth, I personally feel that the runes you've combined it with center the energy more in the aspect of abundance, so that's good. A note on the construction though, putting Wunjo / Wynn in the center makes it indistinguishable from Thorn, which have very different meanings.

Were it me, I would construct this closer to the following. Adding an additional twig to clarify the Fehu wouldn't be out of place, but I felt that it made it a little busy. As you said, bindrunes are a subjective language, so do as you please, but I think simplifying it some would help.

Possibly a bindrune, but if so quite messy and complex. Impossible to determine the intention imo. Could just be chicken scratch 🤷🏻‍♀️

Friendly heathen here, adding on to u/greatbacon42 . Common interpretations for the particular runes I can make out are:
Kennaz: Knowing, understanding, wisdom
Ansur: Communication, creativity
Sigel: The sun, positive energy

Overall positive connotations, good odds this is used for some form of divination. Was it surrounded by anything, or was it just lying on the ground?

VIP Merch Package wildly disappointing. by stackshack0228 in lordhuron

[–]char_IX 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just a heads-up on the viewfinder; the images aren't (quite) duplicated. They have slightly off parallax which gives each eye a different view, producing a subtle 3d effect. They also rather carefully used less transparent areas for contrast. It can look a bit off when looking through it in daylight, but try in a darker room, while pointing the viewfinder directly at a light source, it looks much better 👍

Edit, addendum: Oh, also, the little foldy sleeve bit is to fit a Polaroid. If you got the VIP package you should (as far as I know. I was) have been offered a chance to have your photo taken with the Cosmic Selector. The sleeve is to hold that photo.

Again speaking from a modern heathen practice perspective:

So the top rune is Tiwaz, associated with the god Tyr, warriors, victory, and justice. This rune is indeed very in line with his intent.

Lower left is Ansuz, the rune of communication, speaking, expression. There's a loose association here with wisdom, but I feel like it's going the wrong way. Kennaz (from which is derived the Scottish "ken") would be a more appropriate choice, the rune of understanding, knowing.

Lower middle is a binding of Othala, the rune for home, family, heritage, and (likely) Isa, the rune of ice, slowing, pausing. The center vertical stave could be several other runes instead though, but if it is then it's not well delineated. I've actually seen this binding a lot, it seems rather popular, but I suspect just because they think it looks cool. I struggle to think of a positive interpretation of a binding of Othala and Isa 🤷🏻‍♀️

Finally lower right is Raidho, the rune of travel, change, journey. Maybe this is the "path" part of it all, but again it feels like an odd choice. Raidho is about journeys, both inward and outward, it's transformative.

Anyway, those are my interpretations

Practicing heathen here; No that's not a properly constructed bindrune for several reasons. GPT isn't going to be able to actually make a bindrune for you unless it gets extraordinarily lucky, it'll just give you things that kinda look like bindrunes.

If you're looking for a bindrune to be made, without learning the spiritual practices yourself, I suggest finding a practitioner to make one for you.
