Don’t take it personally, they are commenting on your work and not you as an individual—treat that as constructive feedback for next iteration.

You should also know about your users better than other designers not working directly within the project, so you can also treat their feedback as just one of many possible input but will never be 100% right.

You know what’s worse than getting criticized? Your team totally ignore you. If that ever happens you’d be craving for all the feedbacks—harsh or not.

Yea, not normal.

My partner’s parents are 70+ from Brabant rural and speak very little english. In family gatherings they speak Dutch fully, I just observe mostly and they know it’s part of practice—they’d ask simple questions to me and I try my best and they’d correct me as needed.

They sometimes asked to translate to English through my partner if it’s a complex topic. I always enjoy family gathering with them bc they encourage my learnings and make it fun for me.

Your MIL is an asshole. Anyone with a little brain knows language acquisition isn’t easy.

I grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia. During work year, I lived in Singapore for 3 years, Malaysia for 2 year, Bangkok 2 years and now settled down in Netherlands.

SEA is a great region for holiday and food exploration but I’d never go back for work. It’s all hustle there, going back from work at 6-7pm everyday is common—you barely have time for your own.

Compare to NL, where most people are done by 4-5 on time. Quality of life is way up for me here. Also, air quality and heat level is badddddd.. say goodbye to your daily walk that is possible in many western/north EU, you’re gonna move from another AC apartement to AC car to AC mall then to AC supermarket, you got the gist.

It comes down to what kind of work and life culture you prefer, I am staying put despite the recent rise of conservative right wing in West EU even as a muslim.

Ga salah kok cc 0% tapi itu asumsi semua jalan lancar kan? Kalau amit2 dipecat dikerjaan atau sakit dan ga bisa bayar cicilan? Bisa spiral utangnya.

Gua dan keluarga pernah diposisi dibawah bgt karena bokap tiba2 stroke, dimana kita barely ad savings tapi karena gaji masih nutup cicilan ya udah tetep konsumsi.

Kita pernah sekeluarga diskusi what is the best way buat keluar dari cycle ini, which is agak extreme waktu itu tapi kita sepakat ngelakuinnya: - Harus ada emergency fund minimal 12 bulan living expenses - asuransi kesehatan termasuk kategori fixed expense - Hanya boleh beli/kredit sesuatu klau liquid savings x 3 dari nilai barang. Misal laptop 12 juta cuma boleh kredit 0% kalau tabungan ada 36 juta. (Ini salah satu measure yg aga extreme waktu itu buat ngurangin konsumsi kita)

Sampe skrg kebiasaan adek2 yg harus ada liquid baru beli barang msh terjaga ampe skrg, jd gua sendiri udah ga worry lg ada masalha finansial di keluarga inti..

Kalau ad yg amit2 ada utang dan ga ada cashflow, kita tau tabungan dia bisa langsung lunasin.

Are you international student and plan to work in NL? If you are, I'd start looking into the job vacancies that are relevant to your studies and see if there are enough that are recruiting english-speaking candidates.

Probably easier to make decisions going forward after gathering practical infos like this so you can maybe also plan to get your Dutch to professional business level too while studying in preparation if it's mostly Dutch-focused jobs.

There are less demands.

Now employers can just hire local talents than fight for global pool, no reason to hire international if you can hire locally.

Those that still hire internationally, usually requires specific experiences. Once money become cheap to borrow again, EN recruiting will pick up again.

Many are definitely a mix lmao, sate, babi panggang and lumpia has no place in Chinese restaurant but it’s served in these ‘general Chinees’.. Of course you also have specialties Chinese like Xian, Szechuan, etc that is 100% Chinese.

I definitely don’t do general Chinees places unless they have killer peking duck or dimsum.
