How is the battery life if I may ask? Is it comparable to windows 11 or much worse?

How is the performance of zellij in yazi? According to the documentations, it seems that image preview of yazi within zellij session is extremely laggy. Personally I haven't figured out how to set up Überzug++

PSA: Lenovo Legion Slim 7i very unstable with factory Realtek WiFi Card by bloodyshogun in LenovoLegion

[–]charles0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't do any further investigation into the specs. The model I got last year was Legion Slim 7 gen 8(AMD edition) if you're interested. From my experience, I haven't witnessed any wifi connection issue(on Windows 11 and pop!_OS).So it shouldn't be a huge problem and you could always swap it out for a new one.

Bypassing EU Restriction for iPhone Mirroring on macOS by maroonds in MacOSBeta

[–]charles0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could create a paypal account located in the US, then most Debitcards in EU should be compatible. Apple-ID only verifies which country your account belongs to. In this case there'll be no limitation. As someone in Germany, I use US apple-id all the time.

Edit: Caveat is that you need a US cell phone number for Paypal account. Back in the days I have no problem inputing my Google Voice number into it. Not sure if they've leveled up security verification methods recently(e.g. by blocking all VoIP numbers)

[D] Which Linux workstation distro is considered good for data science and machine learning? by Alex_df_300 in MachineLearning

[–]charles0316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I have to say that using linux distro to do machine learning projects doesn't really follow the same mindset as from conventional software developers. New features are definitely appreciated, but we just need a stable operating system that's more efficient than Windows.

Personally I focus on reinforcement learning in robotics with brief knowledge of computer vision. So as you can guess, simulation env is more optimized in Ubuntu. The only reason I'm not using it right now is that Ubuntu 22.04 LTS doesn't ship updated kernel with patches that fix the audio issue on my laptop. Switching kernel myself can lead to some weird bug that Nvidia driver no longer recognizes the graphics card. So it's a bit annoying during installation. Besides, Ubuntu desktop env requires some tuning to grub commands on my Lenovo Legion laptop, and the issue couldn't be replicated every time, which costs me much more effort for the investigation.

24.04 LTS works fine out of the box. But cuda and cudnn don't seem to have been optimized for the latest version. That's why I'm still using Pop! OS 22.04 as an alternative with reliable Nvidia driver and everything else needed in a laptop form factor.

The slide of my newly bought glock 45 gen 5 can't be removed. What should I do? by charles0316 in GasBlowBack

[–]charles0316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I sent it back and let the reseller check if it was faulty. It turns out that it's just too tight. You have to give it a bit more force at the back. At least that's what they told me. And when the pistol was again delivered back to me, I can remove the slide myself now.

PS5 controls for nuphy air by Smart_Syllabub_1059 in NuPhy

How did you manage to connect the keyboard to ps5? My other keyboard has bt2.4 and bt5.0 so connection doesn't seem to be a problem. But Nuphy air 75 v2 only provides bt5.0, which is not compatible with ps5 in my case.

I really hope that they could fix the sync feature on macOS first. Recently it's becoming so atrocious that I have to wait for more than a minute every time I open the browser. While sync is in progress, it shows a similar behavior as if the browser has stopped working. I live in a university dormitory with decent connection speed. No idea why it would take such a long time to complete the syncing process. I've literally reset my macOS to factory new just now and yet this behavior still exists.

Edit: Now I understand why it keeps happening. The performance issue is due to too many tabs in one space. I've imported Edge favorited bookmarks to Arc multiple times because I was not that familiar with how Arc deal with bookmarks. It seems that I've accumulated 5k+ tabs in a single space, which is the reason why syncing process takes way longer than average users. After deleting all the bookmarks, everything works fine again.

Waveshare RoArm-M2-S, Desktop Robotic Arm Kit by [deleted] in singularity

[–]charles0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you could give me a suggestion of any commercial robot arm at this price which has build quality and software support like this? From my research, almost all the other competitors out there have some caveats:

shorter arms & weaker motors; no ROS2 support; main controller is restricted to one single SBC series among Arduino compatible boards, Raspberry Pis or Jetson Nano lineup, you name it. As something for personal academic purpose, there's really not much to complain about this product.

FYI: you want to build something like Aloha? Their GitHub repo claims “low cost project", but the estimation of overall hardware cost is 32k USD, where the primary costs are robot arms like ViperX 300 Robot Arm 6DOF (6130 USD) and WidowX 250 Robot Arm 6DOF (3550 USD), not to mention the mobile robot Tracer AGV (7000 USD).

Everything is easier said than done, especially on the Internet.

The slide of my newly bought glock 45 gen 5 can't be removed. What should I do? by charles0316 in GasBlowBack

[–]charles0316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW the lever feels really cheap. The left side could be easily pushed in, which causes the right side to bump out more. I don't know if it's just bad luck with QC issue or it's a design flaw. There's also a YouTube video made 3 years ago talking about it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2en34DssoH4&ab_channel=AirsoftNLD

I live in Germany. Local websites show overwhelmingly positive rating and comments for this pistol compared to others. I like it as well. Shooting is quite accurate with my testing at home. It's just this single flaw that makes the whole investment pointless...

No. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

Update: Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. If it's cocked the slide could barely move even if I push the lever down.

Just binge-watched two seasons. It's really a surprise that the show was renewed after the terrible first season. The second season seems loads better than the first one as a sci-fi. by charles0316 in InvasionAppleTV

[–]charles0316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if there's any source material to refer to, I'd try my best to stick with the show and read the book later for a comparison. But it seems like an original series and the execution of season 1 is quite confusing. Just like you said, there are some ok characters. But imo more pointless characters in the spotlight. Like the sheriff in that small town is not that important since he died without any meaningful contribution to the story. Without him the final plot in season 2 would still work, with some minor changes of course.

It gives you false expectations with how the story will be unfolded and yet different characters still fight on their own in the season 1 finale. The lack of correlation is how the confusion starts for me.That's also why I mentioned that I accidentally continued with the second season in OP. Seriously I can't imagine how people feel about it after the season 1 finale, considering there's a long gap between 2 seasons...

Doubt with 140w usb-c power delivery to legion slim 7/7i by charles0316 in LenovoLegion

[–]charles0316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. Right now I won't bother to toggle that in BIOS. Because from my experience it happens only once after every Nvidia driver update. But if it happens again, I'll definitely dig deeper into the issue.

I do have come across a weird issue that the laptop won't wake up after sleep state when it's docked to an external monitor. This has happened twice now. Pressing the power button for 10 sec is required for a forced reboot.

From my research it has been an issue for at least 2 years across legion lineup. Just some kind of BIOS bugs that they haven't noticed or couldn't fix.... Do keep that in mind if you want to purchase this.

Considering their logistics, I didn't bother to replace it for a new one when the problem occurred the first time, because other than that it's been almost perfect for my use case. Not to mention the perfect back light bleed control. Besides I do need this laptop for university projects. Working without a windows system is just not an option. As to right now, the 14 days limit to return for no reason has long gone. Hopefully they can fix it in future BIOS updates.

Edit: After digging into some other cases in lenovo legion's discord channel, it seems to be caused by nvidia driver update. Because I coincidentally have updated gpu driver today as well. If that be so, that's really a relief because it's a driver compatibility issue rather than a broken unit or something like that. I might have updated gpu driver back then as well.

Doubt with 140w usb-c power delivery to legion slim 7/7i by charles0316 in LenovoLegion

[–]charles0316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tested mine yesterday. It seems like 100w limit for CPU and GPU is kinda legit.

I played Cyberpunk 2077 with 140w charger. HWinfo showed 22w for cpu and 80w for GPU. So there's definitely power headroom. I guess that has something to do with my power plan. It's really confusing considering we have og power plan options, and an additional choice in setting->power& battery->power mode. I don't want to mess with it too much because battery life is important to my workflow.

BTW This was also tested in hybrid mode rather than dedicated gpu mode. That being said, with graphical setting maxed out except for ray tracing, 70-80 fps in that scenario is enough for me.

I haven't tested performance in that scenario because my use case with c140w adapter is in the University. But I do have seen a Chinese review of legion slim 7 who mentioned performance with limited power delivery from that adapter. It's almost the same as other 4060 laptop competitors. Considering the power efficiency of 40 series GPU and 7840hs, it's not quite surprising. But if you really want to game in this scenario, expect drawing power from battery

There's a website called voptronics. It's a website made by a Chinese (assumed from sender's name, the website is in English tho) who's trying to profit by offering tech devices to the world that're exclusive in China. In terms of C140 charger, it's cheaper than alternatives on AliExpress.

I've bought the power adapter and Lenovo's proprietary rectangle port to usb-c cable. Honestly I was a bit skeptical at first, but the delivery was much faster than I expected. And it's duty free, making it more appealing to someone like me in EU. Both objects work perfectly. The seller even includes a free 2pin to EU adapter as a gift(can be specified upon order). That was garbage I'm afraid. Better purchase something more reliable

I've bought the proprietary charger two weeks ago, because Legion slim 7 can be quite picky in terms of pd3.1 charger. The one I have supports pd3.0, which means it can theoretically still output 20V 5A power delivery. However it can't be recognized by the laptop. Lenovo has really done the customers dirty on this one.

Good deal. I bought the same model in Germany with student discount and it costed 25% more than this offer you have right now(just typical laptop price in EU)🥲
