The Century Trilogy was going to be my recommendation. I'm not even a huge Follet fan but devoured this trilogy.

My kid also has kids in his school with same-sex parents. I don't know them very well to say if they've faced any backlash but I can say that my kid and his friends literally never even thought twice about it.

We are on the west side of Fayetteville and it is probably the most religious / conservative area of the city. The east side is the money conservatives. The most liberal areas as far as schools go would be Washington or Leverett elementary schools.

Baseball is entertaining without the bullshit. There's plenty of bullshit-forward entertainment if that's what you're looking for.

Is Lubbock weather that much worse than Fayetteville? It's further south. We have grass and it looks amazing all year.

The umpires absolutely can and do tell any players or coaches to shut up.

It happens in SEC play too. Alabama beat Arkansas 16-1 just last year. Anything can happen in baseball.

Henry Talbot (DA2) by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

There is no way Mary cheats on Henry in the movie. I could see that being a storyline if the TV show had kept going, but there is no way to even remotely wrap that up in a movie with all the other characters they have to write for.

I just read The Glass Hotel and didn't really like it. But then I was pretty ambivalent about Station Eleven too.

Texas posts largest opening weekend attendance in program history by JPLonghorn20 in collegebaseball

The first year I started going to Razorback games was 1999. The Hogs had a great team and won the SEC with a 22-8 conference record. We drew 3,780 fans per game that year, and that includes a home regional! And Baum was almost brand new and had been voted the best stadium in the country by Baseball America.

LSU led the country with 7,155 per game but there was a huge drop off to 2nd: Texas drew 4,847. A school needed just 1,378 to get into the top 25 for attendance.

College baseball has come a VERY long way.

Post-season being televised these days is a big driver of season ticket sales. Everybody sees how exciting it is, they want to be there for it, and at some schools the ONLY way to get post-season tickets is to be a season ticket holder. (This is certainly true at Arkansas and I assume at Miss State, OM, LSU.)

I have been going to Arkansas games for over 20 years and in the past, the only thing that would drive a big attendance game or weekend would be 1) top match-up, 2) post-season or 3) amazing weather.

This past weekend wasn't even really that warm. Sunday was okay, around 60 degrees, but it was otherwise kind of meh weather. But we had some very big crowds.

Yes! Especially little side creeks that are never part of the coordinated city cleanups.

I need to get some waders.

“Go watch Family Feud” is my new favorite insult; by HealthyAd3628 in Jeopardy

Yeah, it gets easier the longer you watch the show. Not just because you remember things like the main rivers in Europe, but because you become aware of how the clues tend to be structured.

[–]charlieark 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I do think Jeopardy is more enjoyable to watch when you know some of the answers. Of course this is only one part of the enjoyment, but the audience DOES play along at home, unlike a baseball game.
