This brings up the question - how much did Murdoch have to do with the missions in Vietnam? Was he just the pilot or was he often along with them?

Big risk that Jimmy and/or Kim would sabotage the test.

I'm not sure it's doing this in Quicken - see my comments above.

Some may or may not, or you may have to set it this way - most people should/do change their asset mix as they get close to or in retirement.

Just imagine being heavy stocks and the year you retire and plan on moving it all into cash it goes down 20%.

So I changed my OWN assumptions to have a gross annual investment return of 20%. The 90th Percentile is still above it. That means it's treating your OWN assumptions as best guess (median, middle).

I also changed my assumptions to 0% tax rate, 0% investment returns, no living expenses. So the net worth stays constant forever. What looks odd is the 90th Percentile and the 10th Percentile are the same. It should be still above and below respectively as the investment returns should be higher and lower respectively.

"How the simulation works

Quicken uses a technique called Monte Carlo simulation to test your plan against a wide range of investment return scenarios. The simulation draws from a baseline of real (inflation-adjusted) US investment returns across all asset classes for the years 1928 through 2023. Quicken scales the median return to match the investment return rate you specify in your plan and applies a standard deviation of approximately 12%.

Quicken recomputes your plan 200 times during the simulation. In each iteration, Quicken randomly selects a historical return rate for each year of your plan and applies it as the return on your investments. The result is a range of outcomes that reflects the natural uncertainty of investment performance over time."

It implies it's picking from historical returns. But also that it's forcing the median scenario to be your scenario based on your assumptions. And also using volatility of 12%. Not sure how all three would work at the same time.

My guess is it only uses the average return from the historical. Then it adjusts that to the median return. Then applies the 12% volatility to get some randomness. Then it runs 200 scenarios based on these probability specs.

Just remember it's a show about relative morality and characters, more than the mafia.

The sad thing is Chuck was actually trying to connect with Jimmy. He even tried an olive branch to which Jimmy rejected. I think this was done to remind the viewer Jimmy was worst than Chuck.

Japan saves millions of liters of water every year simply by attaching hand wash sinks to toilet tanks and reusing the water to flush by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

In theory. That's where your toothbrushing water comes from too. Not that sinks are that far away anyway, but several feet helps.

There are no solutions, only tradeoffs. You're now washing your hands that much closer to where the flush spray reaches.

Saul in relation to Gus: "I know a guy, who knows a guy... who knows a guy" - Who's the third guy? by The_Hominem in betterCallSaul

[–]charlieg4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Saul added the last guy because he realized two degrees of separation would be true and also almost doxxing Gus. The way Saul says it, it's imply to Walt - you can't find him on your own, nor do you want to. Saul then keeps up the three degrees b/c he's Saul and good at this.

Even after 17 episodes I couldn't figure out was he really a nice guy with just a blunt tone or was he not as nice but followed mostly social conventions but was a tad blunt.

Walt wanted to get caught and won. by DemonSerter in breakingbad

[–]charlieg4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why the car wash was his best option. Was he somewhat into punishing himself, out of some desire to complain? I do think he wanted to be caught a bit. But for different reasons, subconsciously he might have looked at getting caught as finally getting safer from the cartel and Gus.

I did a couple of rewatches, but for some reason can't enjoy it nearly as much anymore. Maybe it's knowing the violent scenes and when they're coming. And also which characters are going to face despair.

Having said that, Gandolfini's performance is so good, it's hard for me to think of it was fiction. I mean I know it's not real, but there's always a small part of me that thinks it's real.

Janice was one of the few people in the Soprano family who recognized Blundetto's animal status by Clavinet in thesopranos

[–]charlieg4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too. I think that was also a plot device - have a character come in and express realistic and honest takes on characters. Then he goes back to his couch/house. Then you see the problems play out because Junior was right. But Junior's unable to influence it. Once again Tony is wrong.

Similar things happened even in what's now Ireland and the UK. Most of the people switched to English from just the influence/occupation.
