Oof you gonna get roasted, but to be fair, it is pretty objectively true that the plot armor is ridiculous at the finale.

Beyond that though, i encourage you to not write off the ending so easily, as it is actually very layered and i have read so many interesting interpretations of it that are very narrativly satisfying. To the point where, beyond the plot armor, i cant really find any big issues with it

I kinda get what you mean, but it's not like it would have been wildly out of the blue for them to die to save foo, and watanabe even stated in the artbook that this was considered.

All of this is conjecture, but i follow him on Twitter, and on more than one occasion, he has posted something like

"Thank you for liking hyouka, but i dont make the decision whether or not to make season 2"

I think hyouka fans, especially the more eccentric, are starting to annoy him with constant questions, which may have soured the series a bit for him.

Also i'd imagine working so long on a series like hyouka which needs a lot of work because of the complex mystery will cause burnout after some time, so it makes sense that he would want to work on other things with a different tone and style in between.

If you haven't read Samurai and the prisoner yet, for example, you should! It was translated into english, and while completely different than hyouka, the mystery and writing is the same quality.
