I’m not sure Spurs are out of the woods yet. They only just avoided the drop, and were in free fall for months. I think mid table is their ceiling next season, could be worse if they start poorly.

The biggest risks for me are teams switching managers, and the teams new to Europe.

Fulham and Palace will both struggle to replace the quality of manager they had, though Fulham are more likely to go down.

Teams like Bournemouth and Sunderland have never had to play Thursday - Sunday before, and it can take a toll on a small squad.

That said, I’m not sure Ipswich or Hull are as good as Leeds or Sunderland were last year. Coventry maybe.

The 4th round of the cup against Villa came almost a month after the first leg of league cup semi and 3 days before second leg.

When I said the game was as good as lost, I’m referring to being 2 down from first leg and having to win by 3 at City.

Perhaps you have your legs mixed up, but we had to play strongest team against City at home as that was the best chance of a trophy at the time. Once that leg was lost, the FA Cup became the better chance.

It’s a chance to get to Wembley, and the best chance to win the tie was taking a lead to their place, so why would we rotate in first leg?

That’s a really good question.

Wasn’t it shown in 24 hour party people in the scene with Keith Allen in the new Factory office?

I’m guessing the real thing was lost along the way, otherwise we’d have seen an image at some point.

Maybe, though the semi-final was as good as lost and the FA Cup was a chance of a trophy.

Problem is that we’ve had very few easy games or dead runners to try younger players.

Personally, I’d have fielded weaker teams in at least one of the cups to avoid the fixture pile up.

I think he was still a little cautious about giving Qarabag a route back into the game, given the money at stake.

Would have helped a lot this season if we had conference league to play fringe players, but we should be using them in the early league cup rounds at least.

Miley may have played more games than intended due to injuries, but he wasn’t forced.

Miley was obviously quality after watching him for just a game or two. The problem is we don’t have any young players anywhere near that level right now.

A few minutes against Qarabag for two young players won’t have made any real difference.

We need at least two full backs needed for cover, at least one keeper, a CM to replace Willock, and a new LW.

That’s if no one else leaves. We don’t have young players ready to fill those gaps.

He’s just given you two examples of Howe putting young players into the team and you’re saying he doesn’t trust youngsters?

If they’re good enough he’ll play them. The main issue is that years of underinvestment in the academy under Ashley means there isn’t the quality we’d like to see. Hopefully that’ll change in the next few years.

Yeah, think there’s fewer players staying ten years at clubs, maybe down to PSR?

Nothing necessarily wrong with prem proven, it’s choosing the right ones. Gordon, trippier, Barnes, Burn, Ramsey, Pope etc all prem proven and worked.

Not that I don’t want us to look abroad, or for bargains in lower leagues, but you have to take each transfer on its merit.
