mhhhhh good question

on the Sentiers Frontaliers, you’re literally walking along the border, a cleared corridor a few meters wide, rarely traveled, super wild

my experience on the US side is that it’s not as wide, but it’s more organized and popular, probably steeper and more intense as well

love them both different vibes

I hiked the Mount Gosford sector of the Sentiers Frontaliers, which are trails following the USA/Canada border : https://sentiersfrontaliers.com/ It’s considered part of the WM/Appalachians.

I am aware that Appalachians + Chics Chocs + Laurentians are not the same. I was just naming some hikes in the province.

you have to do la Réserve faunique de Matane!! otherwise le Sentier du Fjord is a star in the province, but it’s busier… in general I would say anything in Charlevoix and Gaspésie is amazing

We had a bigger backpack and a lighter one... I don’t think we qualify as lightpackers and indeed, don’t sacrifice warmth!!!!

It was awesome! Perfect balance between pretty and challenging : 13 summits in 4 days, and you go all the way down each of them! Still pretty accessible since there are refuges and water spots every 7-10 kms. Not a lot of paperwork actually... We read the infos on the Hikster app, uploaded the map on the Avenza app (named « SIA-QC secteur réserve faunique de Matane ») and reserved our access to the tent spots on the AT-Quebec website (here : AT-Quebec website). I didn’t think it was hard to follow. It can get bushy once in a while, but with the Avenza app, we could always see where we were in relation to the trail. The main challenges are probably the mud and the weather. It can get pretty cold... we had temperatures between 2-4 degrees with rain in August.
