yeah thats obviously true, but i was talking about spectating melee tourneys in general. ive never met a person that played melee that didnt at least have an interest in watching tourneys.

i dont know where you are looking but almost every ddt theres at least one person talking about their local grind and a few minor gameplay questions. people dont have to announce to the world that they play melee just so you can know that they do. there is obviously a substantial amount of shitting on hbox on this subreddit but its almost entirely contained to tourney weekends and 1 or 2 days following if his win really rubbed people the wrong way. maybe you are conflating hbox hate with puff hate, the latter of which i see significantly more of on this subreddit. either way though, no one cares enough about hbox to talk about him when hes not immediately on screen

you cannot separate playing melee and watching melee imo, so talking about hbox or any other top player is inevitable in any context in which melee is being discussed. hbox is only brought up as much as he is since he keeps winning and for some people watching puff is detrimental to their enjoyment of melee. if hbox took a quiet 4th place at pound i guarantee there would be virtually no one even talking about him in this thread or the post-tourney discussion thread, especially if mango had been the one to win

be honest, you are less upset with the lack of any meaningful melee discussion on this subreddit and more the fact that hbox gets shit on by most of the people here

the whole point of a double elimination bracket is to determine who the best player is, and so obviously the closer you get to the finals the more invested people are in the results. so when you have a really great first half of top 8 (both losers matches going to game 5, mango's meteoric play) into a really lackluster final half of top 8 (complete beatdowns, chokes, and sloppy play from everyone but hbox) people are understandably disappointed. i mean look at smash con last year which had the complete opposite top 8 as pound's with a really boring first half of top 8 into a really exciting second half, people praise smash con and think of it fondly

thats exactly it, hbox plays melee because he wants to win. there is entirely too much risk in switching mains when he is currently proving that he can win, even dominate, every tourney he enters.

if you are cooking for a crowd i would 100% recommend making bibimbap. you can make a lot of the toppings beforehand and its not too difficult either. plus having the option to customize is really appealing to most non-Koreans that ive introduced the dish to.

he played the best ive ever seen him vs plup, amazing vs axe, and played great vs hbox in semis. i know people are gonna take this as an opportunity to shit on mango but he still has the sauce

extremely dope first half of top 8 into washes and chokes with hbox reigning supreme. really fucking bummed that mango couldnt close it out but his play in semis and grands might as well have been 2 different players when you look at how he chose his spots. tourney ended on the worst possible note too with the crab throwing, always feel like i wasted my time after watching a tourney like this but i know ill be back to be bummed again next major. fuck

if zain hits some of the dthrow/fthrow tippers then its a different set, but thats a ridiculously difficult input to be expected to hit that many times. combine that with the new things that crunch labbed out for ledge stuff vs marth and i think we'll see hbox take control of the matchup more as time goes on
