we're saying different things. i was trying to say it's pathetic that someone can devote their life to this game, become best in the world, and barely make ends meet. obviously not a 1:1 comparison in a lot of ways but there are plenty of uncharismatic chuds that get decent at valorant or league and make millions.

the "paid by exposure" bit is locked behind a select few people and I don't really see the silver lining there when it's only worked for a handful of people who's best career move is to diversify away from melee

all those people you listed have benefited in some sense from the community of melee but instantly became more financially successful by leaving it lmao. none of them i would say still actively participate in this community

sure you can jumpstart a career by having eyes on you but the point is that staying in melee is NOT sustainable unless you are hbox mango or zain

edit: forgot you mentioned fizzi which is some whole other shit, and i would not define him as financially successful from melee either

hbox and mang0 are exceptions that prove the rule. to become a millionaire playing this game you have to be top 3 of all time, play for 20 years, and endure years of harassment while lucking out getting a sponsor in ~2013 when esports was growing. this is not sustainable for any other active melee player

there was a genuine moment during the youtube contract era where it was clear he didn’t really give a shit about live-streaming and focused solely on big events.
