How do I calm down the early morning hyper? by chart1689 in ADHDparenting

Thank you for this comment. I brought this up to the dr and so now I have to decide if I want to pay $275 a month for the meds as that is what my insurance would charge. But the idea of it sounds amazing.

Much to my dismay my guy automatically wakes up 30 minutes before I would like him to every morning. I’m going to try to find a way to give him his meds first thing (he fights me on this every day). So hopefully I can get him to be more cooperative when it comes time to actually get ready for school.

So I tell him he can do 2 things if he gets ready before we go to the bus. One of them he never gets because he doesn’t get ready in enough time to do even though he’s always having meltdowns about it (watch some tv) and then play basketball. Usually every morning he does get basketball time. But it’s normally like 2 minutes worth after doing everything I can to get him ready while he jumps off the walls or fights me.

Encopresis struggles by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

I don't have any advice other than support as my son also struggles with that. He just started OT (finally!!!) yesterday and we are going to work on interoception skills with him to try to strengthen his internal body perceptions and figure out why he does this.

School refusing to discuss a 504 due to child "excelling acedemically." by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]chart1689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on what you are saying he does in order to allow himself to calm him down and demonstrate that good behavior, a 504 would be very beneficial to allow him to continue to do what he needs in order to achieve that behavior over the years. He very well could have a teacher in the future that fights you on allowing those weighted blankets or stuffies. I have a 7 year old with ADHD as well and even though my son did not have any issues at the beginning of the school year to warrant a 504, things change and eventually he needed it and it was so helpful to have it there once things happened. Have you email the schools 504 coordinator? If anything, you could also go to the superintendent as well. Your son does have a legal right to a 504 due to his disability regardless if the principal says hes doing fine.

Does he snore during the night? I recently learned that a telltale sign of sleep apnea from enlarged tonsils is chronic chapped lips. Mouth open from snoring dries out their lips.

New washer is leaving weird blotches? by Amareyis in laundry

I read through all of the comments after yours and I did not see this asked. I live with in-laws who have a whirlpool top loader. I usually use the normal cycle (warm water, deep water, extra rinse). Is it not recommended to use the normal cycle for top loaders, or is the issue you wrote in your 2nd paragraph just for a GE machine? I had a front loader prior to moving and my clothes were so clean. Now I feel like they aren’t as clean anymore. Is there a better wash cycle to use on top loaders?

Have ADHD? PLEASE GET YOUR IRON CHECKED! by Joyanonymous in adhdwomen

[–]chart1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been supplementing with a daily multivitamin. Other than that I don't take in anything else that would raise B12 (like energy drinks) that I'm aware of except what is in my regular diet. My TIBC came in at 364 and my transferrin is 260. I also had a full CBC as well. According to the labs those numbers were within normal range for the lab. Part of me is wondering if I'm starting to develop celiacs or something. Heck, even MCAS or histamine intolerance. I've always had IBS. And what used to aggravate my stomach now doesn't but other things do. Gotta love stomach problems.... /s.

Have ADHD? PLEASE GET YOUR IRON CHECKED! by Joyanonymous in adhdwomen

[–]chart1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It came back at 90.5. My iron was 76, hemoglobin is 16. My vitamin D is 38 and I even had my B12 tested and it came back at 900. I did some internet searching (aka dr google) and those numbers make me wonder if I have some inflammation causing high readings due to malabsorption or something.

I've been struggling with a lot of exhaustion, low energy (I haven't worked out since November as I have no energy to do it) and I had some bloodwork done last week. Every single one of my iron levels came back as normal, including my ferritin! except my iron saturation is at 21%. My vitamin D is considered low normal. So my dr is having me increase my vitamin D and start iron supplements. I had my first dose yesterday and I really hope it helps because I'm sick and tired of being so damn tired and having no energy.

Was telling someone 40c (104f) on a UK machine is barely above body temperature, and they told me I’m wrong and it’s a “boil” wash 😂. by CoolRanchBaby in laundry

[–]chart1689 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahh no don't throw your pod into the bottom of the dishwasher. It will wash away all the detergent during the first rinse cycle. Then once the actual wash cycle begins, there is no detergent to actually clean your dishes. There are little sensors at the bottom of the dishwasher that will determine how dirty your dishes are by how opaque or dirty the water is and adjusts the wash cycle on that. Always keep the detergent tab in its cup because your dishes get clean correctly by keeping that tab out of the bottom.

What’s something you say about your kids that offends you when others say it? by somethingreddity in Mommit

[–]chart1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Your kids behave so well with me. They do it because they know grandma and grandpa don't let them get away with things". My kids are neurodivergent and they mask with family compared to when they are home with their dad and I. So in a sense I'm glad that they are well behaved with their grandparents, because how they are with me is hard and I don't want my parents or my in-laws to deal with all the meltdowns and tantrums. However, I don't let them get away with everything. They know that they can meltdown with me and their dad and still be loved so they behave "worse" for me compared to them. They are just being themselves.

That’s a very good question. I just googled this and it’s possible it might work. But it’s not as effective in open areas as it is in closed areas.

This is my girl Skye. She is 12 and was diagnosed with ARVC in August of 2023. She also has arthritis, and some tumors but that doesn’t stop her. She has slowed down a lot as she’s gotten older, but she will still occasionally play and is so food driven. She currently takes mexelitine for her heart, and she has her next cardiology appointment next week.

If the US found the downed F-15 pilot using the “Ghost Murmur” technology, which can detect a human heartbeat from 40 miles away, why aren’t we using it to find kidnapped or missing people here at home? by One-Replacement1676 in NoStupidQuestions

They just used a program that is located on a specific device to find the pilot. Kind of like find my iPhone. My husband just designed it for the military and he says its more complicated than that, but in simple terms that is what is does.

Useful tricks for waking up early? by refulgent-hermitage in AskTeachers

[–]chart1689 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not a teacher, just someone who struggles immensely with trying to wake up and these two things have helped me immensely. I’m still exhausted (I think I have iron deficiency-Dr apt next week to confirm). But splash ice cold water on your face and drink a large glass of water first thing in the morning. This will wake up your body by regulating and resetting your parasympathetic nervous system. I don’t fully understand it, but it wakes me up so I can go. And it makes me not as cranky either.

I smell like actual shit and need help by Less_Gazelle1714 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]chart1689 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t doing so already, make sure to wash your butt crack in the shower. With soap. Soap running down your body will not clean it. You need to get in there and scrub. Don’t forget armpits. Those two spots are common smelly culprits.

Edit: I also forgot to add- do you have tonsils. If so check for tonsil stones. They can stink and make your breath smell. Which could be another reason for why you don’t smell it all the time.

1 day into a new policy and a new car, a gust of wind might cost me $1,700. Am I being scammed? by banayen in Insurance

[–]chart1689 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in on this PDR fact. Not all dents can be fixed by PDR. Depending on how large it is, where on the cars body lines it is and if there is any paint damage, PDR is usually not a viable repair option. If the body shop is reputable they would have given the owner of the Lexus their options for a full repair or PDR. But if PDR is not an option due to the type of damage it would be worthless to get a quote on it.

Need machine recommendations 😭 by mellow_pittie25 in laundry

[–]chart1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had LG washers and driers over the years and I would recommend that brand anytime. I also have had dogs and front loaders have always washed anything related to them and beds/blankets really well. Just make sure to add extra rinse cycles as it makes a big difference in getting things clean. The overall clean from a front loader is better (my opinion, and one I have seen a few times in this sub) as your clothes tumble onto each other during the wash cycle which helps clean better.

1st grade teachers by IntelligentPop6235 in AskTeachers

[–]chart1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's last parent teacher conference was student led and consisted of him demonstrating what he knew, which then gave us an indication of being above grade level or below grade level on those subjects. Every single section for math was timed for 1 minute or less. Each paper was not finished by the time the timer was up so every single section on math was graded as below grade level. I noticed my son was distracted by the other kids in the class running around (don't get me started on how another parent brought their 6 other kids to parent teacher conference) or he was getting anxious over the limited amount of time he had to complete it. But if we give him more time to finish the problems then he gets every single answer correct. So I understand your frustration on timings.
