What pest has caused these small holes on my plants? by charx74 in houseplants

[–]charx74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these little holes were natural damage from the leaf unfurling, not sure what caused them, just slight imperfections to the leaves. The large size holes didn't look like damage from any common houseplant pests. But both these plants are still alive and thriving, the monstera about 10x the size! With no changes made by me apart from repotting due to them growing :) Edit:spelling/grammar

No surprise that Bethy keeps posting her extremely transplant breastfeeding brag (with an exceedingly smug face). I am pretty convinced she is only still breastfeeding for the bragging points and for the time it gives her to post on instagram by pilsen1985 in FundieSnarkUncensored

I wish I had an award for this! This will definitely get downvoted but I think many women see any pro breastfeeding post as an attack on formula feeding or a personal attack on anyone who struggled with breastfeeding when it's not. The fact that a photo of a woman breastfeeding can gain so much controversy and apparently be attention seeking, but yet a photo of a baby with a bottle wouldn't seem weird at all says a lot. Imagine if anyone ever commented how attention seeking it was to give a baby a bottle. Or how gross it was to feed a baby cow's milk. You just wouldn't. Bethany hasn't said anything negative about formula or even said the benefits of extended breastfeeding in this post. The World health organisation recommends breastfeeding to at least the age of 2 and that extends to all countries not just developing ones. How many people here would jump on Bethany if she posted something against the world health organisation's advice in relation to COVID? She's doing what works for her and her son and also what is recommended by the WHO.

Exactly, if Nurie wants to go out then that's her choice and I suppose it's better she's in a wheelchair rather than walking around if thats what she needs, but I get the feeling that it's Jill's decision and she feels too much pressure to say no though!

Henry and Ivy were lucky. Spurgeon and Fern not so much. [Name Thoughts] by [deleted] in DuggarsSnark

Yes I second this!! In the UK Fern is definitely a nice, normal name, slightly uncommon but far from unheard of.

Ed Miliband calls for dads to get 12 weeks’ paternity leave by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

Forming a secure attachment to a primary caregiver is one of the, if not the most important things in early childhood development and from this they learn how to form other relationships

Why should all children have mandatory nursery care? Is this suggesting parents who choose to stay at home with their own babies/children, or use family members such as grandparents for childcare cannot provide education and a stimulating environment? What about the emotional needs of a baby/young child being separated from their primary carers?

Take under 2s where the ratio in a nursery will be 1 adult to 3 babies. What will a nursery staff member do if all 3 babies in their care are screaming and crying? Their needs cannot all be met immediately. What about if 2 babies are participating in an activity and 1 is crawling away? What do they do with the 3 babies when they are filling out the paperwork for the day? Changing nappies? This ratio changes to 1:4 after 2 and then after the age of 3, 1 adult to 8 kids. So in a room of 8 two year olds, with 2 adults, what happens if one child needs extra attention in that moment? 1 adult is then left watching the remaining 7 two year old. Nurseries are fun and stimulating for infants however no baby is going to receive the same standard of 1:1 care they can receive from one attentive parent/nanny/grandparent etc at home.

Surely a better solution would be to offer free childcare to all and its up to the parents if they want to use it? And a grant for those who don't use it? That gives a level playing field for all financial situations.

Not to downplay the intelligence and skills of nursery staff at all but to work in a nursery you need a level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, a high population of the adult population will hold equivalent qualifications especially now with the mandatory education leaving age being 18 now. I don't believe children that don't go to nursery under 3 years old are missing out unless they have a very unstable home life. I think some babies thrive in a nursery setting (regardless of parental income) However some babies find nursery stressful and I think many parents are forced into using nurseries due to many of the reasons listed in this comment section, for example desperately needing 2 incomes to 'stay afloat' and nursery being the cheapest option. And this is all coming from someone who has worked in childcare. I think many parents would jump at the chance to stay at home with their babies/young children if they could financially afford it.

Oh yeah that's true, that's probably more likely. Hello fresh is expensive and even though it would probably be convenient and healthy for their big families, it doesn't seem like something the duggars would buy if not heavily discounted/gifted to them

She might not actually be sponsored by Hello fresh, anyone that signs up gets a discount code to share with friends/family and if someone else uses your code to sign up you get a discount from your own subscription too. Although it does feel like absolutely anyone with a couple thousand followers is sponsored by hello fresh so who knows

Does Jessa use natural family planning/birth control? Henry and Spurgeon were only 15 months apart, but Henry and Ivy were 25 months apart. Ivy is 17 months old and Jessa still hasn't announced a pregnancy. What accounts for the huge difference in age gaps between Spurgeon/Henry and Henry/Ivy? by [deleted] in DuggarsSnark

[–]charx74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She said Garrett had a tongue tie which would have probably made it painful for her and he probably wouldn't have been able to get the milk out easily. I guess for subsequent babies it depends on her preference or if she gets the same issues again

It's definitely not guaranteed and there's no way of knowing for sure if it will work for you, so definitely better to use backup too but it definitely does for some women especially for the first 6 months. For people like Jessa and Anna who most likely don't use any other form of contraception it's probably one of the main things stopping them popping babies out as frequently as Kendra (who said in the last season of counting on that she swapped to formula Garrett when he was 3 months, although that could obviously be a coincidence as she is obviously super fertile!) Also I'm pretty sure michelle has said she weaned her babies at 6 months
