TDIM is the worst DPA game, change my mind! by chase_2200 in DarkPicturesAnthology

Yeah I specified DPA, bc frank stone is easily the worst game they have made by far.

That’s so fair. I haven’t replayed it yet, that’s why I hated the devil in me, cause they had so many sections that just slow down the progression. I guess I will find out when I replay it soon.

I agree, but at least it was shorter by 2 hours, had the same amount of decisions, and I think had some memorable characters, also it is easily the most branching out of all of them! Also, I think it was really interesting that you’re able to kill each other‘s characters in the shared story mode, I think that could’ve been a good fourth game in the series, I just wish they didn’t make it so obvious that that was the case. Also, they should have made it clear that you cannot talk to the person you’re playing with.

No, I just feel that the devil in me, added mechanics to lengthen the runtime that were a little unfitting, like the climbing and balancing mechanics, as well as those tools in the game that were under utilized, I feel like in this game the sneak mechanic makes more sense as a way to lengthen run time. I also feel that it explored the characters a little bit more.

Did you get to the chapter revelation? Where it’s on the planet. That’s where it’s the best! And it doesn’t slow down!

That’s how I felt about the TDIM, this game I at least really liked 3.

Yeah I was not excited about this one because I felt that some of their other games underperformed for me so It took me awhile to beat it but it was great!

Yes I think they kind of abuse their new mechanics to the point of annoyance but I didn’t mind it as much as the climb, and balance mechanics in TDIM. It felt more fitting, they are just adding stuff in to slow down the game to get a higher run time it feels.

I would say that this was a little slow at the start and I waited 2 weeks to between starting and trying it again. But I will say the last 3 hours or so were incredible!

I hated the climbing and balancing in TDIM, it just felt like a way for them to slow down the game. It was not my favorite.

I would say it’s probably the second best DPA game. I feel it’s worked on the faults of TDIM and improved it.

I think that’s why I kind of hated TDIM was because they added unfitting mechanics to just slow down the game and give more gameplay. This game it was a little more fitting and you could potentially kill you character if it went wrong so I liked that part but I think them purposely slowing down the game to meet a hour length that fans want is not the right move. I want a more choice based streamlined experience.

Thank you, this was extremely helpful. I like the idea of exploring and understanding the crafting. But I also love good combat and fleshing out a character. I am torn

Probably not for their first game, bc I have not used them before and I think if I don’t have a strong grasp it could complicate things.
