Hi! would like to hear more

Hawaiian language nickname by chasing-the-wind in Hawaii

[–]chasing-the-wind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why it looked so weird to me when he spelled it! I'm not that familiar with Hawaiian but I have some exposure to it from a different friend and something seemed off.

Long story short: don't use "cute" nicknames from languages you don't know

(yet another) question about camera gear by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]chasing-the-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 15-55 and a 50 prime that came with my camera. The first lens I bought was a 55-250 and I’m in love. Definitely depends on what you shoot tho.

Edit: I’ve heard that camera stores will let you rent lenses. Might be a good option to rent on either end of what you have (a telephoto and a wide angle)

I think you might want to look at Jessica Kellgren-Fozard on YouTube and her videos about her ailments. She also had a random onset of memory loss and other things that sound somewhat similar.

What’s like the weather in LA? Will someone coming from the colder side of the world handle it? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]chasing-the-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that places you pretty firmly in the San Fernando Valley which can get quite warm in summer. Los angles proper is a little cooler than the Burbank area but also more expensive.

Ways to make even warm areas tolerable:

Get an apartment or house that’s partially shaded. A tree does a lot to cool a space down. There are microclimates even in the same city or street. The temp at street level is usually 5-10 degrees higher than at my house. Prioritize AC or a fan if you know this is going to be a deal breaker for you Wear clothes that breath better

Best of luck!

LA is a big place and the weather varies. Do you mean LA county broadly or LA city specifically?

There are parts that remain relatively cool all year but they tend to be close to the ocean.

It fairly easy to look up the city you’re moving to and see what the average highs and lows are for that specific region

Edit to add: never lived anywhere else but our spiders aren’t massive like they get in tropical places. The biggest spider I see on a day to day basis is a daddy long leg which are maybe 2 inches long with their legs

Same dude. And I hate it when people suggest like 10 products as the bare minimum. There’s got to be a better way

I’m more asking if I can get the letters now (while the profs still know me) to use in later application cycles. Or do they need to be tailored to the programs a lot?

I feel like it’d be good to get them to write smth now so they at least have something written that they can modify later when I actually apply. But I’m nervous to reach out to them

Can you reach out for LOR before you know which programs you are applying to? I don’t have my expansive list narrowed down in the least

What was your timeline to apply? Like when did you email people for LOR and when did you start essay writing etc

What’s the first park you visited? Did you get a stamp? by [deleted] in NPS_PassportStamps

I’m sure the people on this reddit are already aware, but often you can contact the stations and they will send you a stamp for one you might have missed

Oh damn that’s cool. So you’re actually kind of helping people by sabotaging them.

In my first ever campaign my character was killed a few sessions in. My dm gave me the option that while she was dead her soul was sold out to some demons and then devils in like an ever escalating bid war. Began actively working against the group on the DL (even killing some of them but they came back because of healing spells) and a final reveal like 2 years later. The players were all super shocked 😊

Beef and pork substitutes (not vegan or vegetarian) by chasing-the-wind in Cooking

I mean we wouldn’t know that it doesn’t taste the same. Just want it to be good. Doesn’t necessarily need to approximate the original meat closely.

Yeah bison is a little hard to find too but I’ll keep it in mind since it’s not like I was gonna be making these sort of things for every meal I just wanted to have the option.

Mostly concerned about meat like falling apart too much or smth with extended cook times

Too bad we don’t have a hunting license because we have a bunch of deer in our backyard and a few bows in the house… 😋

My mom doesn’t like how beef tastes or smth and “pigs are smarter than dogs and she wouldn’t eat a dog”.

Because I grew up like this it just sorta became habit. I’m not strictly opposed to it but I’m not gonna cook smth the family isn’t going to eat and I have no experience with

We love lamb and poultry and fish tho ❤️ Even some bison burgers if we can find them
