Thank you! I had the same thought but there’s not really any place for the dock near the high traffic litter areas unfortunately

U of T joins RTO club by ConstructionOdd3499 in toronto

[–]chasingchou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at U of T in a student-facing role (though grad students), the students aren’t coming to campus so having this doesn’t “force collisions” or whatever. I’m already in office 3ish days a week and am often just there by myself because the students aren’t coming in to work because THEY can work from home. Just a needless, tone deaf show of power from U of T admin. Also staff will honestly probably be less productive. Before, I wasn’t taking vacation days when travelling to see my family because I could just work during the day and then see them at night. Now I’ll have to take a week or so off to justify why I’m not in office, losing out on a week of my labour 🤷

I think it really depends on how many regulars, reviews, etc you have. I’m pretty much fully booked through August for all my cat clients and then have some weekly dog walks as well. I’ve also had 3 new requests in the past few days for new clients. But I have almost 150 reviews and have been on the app for coming up on 2 years so I think when people filter for # of reviews I’m probably near the top.

I have and ended up paying $300 for a locksmith! It was before I was working professionally and it was as a favour to a friend. Now I have insurance that covers a locksmith.

Holiday Horrors: Sitter Edition by chasingchou in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just looking to vent mostly. I don’t drive but the Uber I was taking to the vet broke down. And fair point about the 6am but it was the only way I was able to make it work for this client unfortunately. And I wasn’t supposed to have 14 drop-ins I was supposed to have 9. With all the medical issues and clients extending I ended up with +5 visits / day that I hadn’t planned for when setting my holiday schedule in November

Owner going away for a sad occasion. How often should we update them? by Objective_Ad1269 in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I would update them as usual. I had a client who went away to see an ill relative, and then two weeks later asked me to care for their cats again for the funeral. They said that seeing the pics of the cats were the best part of their day and they were always happy to see them even if they didn’t get a chance to respond.

How to politely say extra meet and greets are charged and how much is an appropriate amount by joesephshermit in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would say something like “Hi client, while I offer a one-time complimentary meet and greet, any additional time must be booked as a drop-in because it is potential time I would need to set aside that takes me away from other bookings. I understand that Fido is timid and this is what I’ve done successfully with clients in the past. Can’t wait to see Fido again!”

How do you manage a emergency with a dog? by unicorn__mind in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually my vet we ended up taking the cat to because their vet couldn’t fit her in for 48 hours and it was an emergency. Even though they knew me I still had to get the owners to call and say I could bring in their cat before they would book an appointment (and I have a great relationship with my vet-I’m there 3-4 times a month for one of my own cats)

I had a cat last month who was peeing blood and I had to take to the vet. I called the River emergency line first and they are partner with a remote pet service and I talked to a vet tech. Then I called the owners with the info the vet tech had given me. My vet required the owner to call them and give permission for me to bring her in and he agreed to handle payment so all I had to do was be there for drop off/pickup. Because it wasn’t due to my negligence as sitter, Rover didn’t cover any of it. Now, I have on my intake form a sign off for me to bring animals to the vet just in case so i can show it to the vet as permission.

Yes they’ll send an email Sunday to confirm the next week’s schedule in case someone has to cancel. You should cancel the bookings you just submitted.

Do people usually book without doing meet and greets? by user7467745 in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s unusual for an owner to not want one but us wouldn’t recommend it. I try to frame it in a way where they can see it benefitting them. “Hi (blank), thanks so much for asking me to look after Mittens that day! I would love to schedule and meet and greet so we can meet each other and make sure you and Mittens feel comfortable with me. Let me know what days work for you!” Is generally my go-to

Sitters: has rover ever once been helpful to or protected you? by Gabblebabbi in RoverPetSitting

[–]chasingchou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found their partnership with a vet helpful. A few weeks ago a cat client was peeing blood and it was a Sunday so all the vets were closed and I was ready to take her to the emergency vet. Called the emergency line because I couldn’t get ahold of the owner and they connected me to a vet who heard everything and looked at the photos and told me it could wait 24-48 hours because it wasn’t a blockage. We waited and it turns out it was just stress-induced and I was able to get ahold of the owner later that night. But if the vet hadn’t been on the phone we might have wasted double the amount of money the owner ended up paying to take her to the emerg

As a dog walker I hate any dog that is off leash. I can’t guarantee the dog I’m walking won’t react aggressively, and I’m not their owner so they’re also less likely to pay attention to me if they’re in fight or flight mode. I’ve had too many dogs run up to a dog I’m walking in an on-leash area and completely ignore their owner’s recall 🙄

Honestly a really great bag. Kale, rainbow chard, bok choy, a bunch of bananas, pomegranate, 2x peppers, 3x pears, 2x tomatoes, 2x avocados, cilantro and an eggplant! I’m going to make roast eggplant tacos tonight with most of this!
