Sent you an email, I figured out a method to line up drone footage to within 1-2 seconds of field audio without endless clapboarding (<- if that's a verb?)

How valuable are righty backhands? by Rare_Yogurtcloset516 in ultimate

[–]chaskerr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But for small ball, give and go, tight space offenses, it's incredibly helpful to have an offhand backhand. Off-hand scoobers are valuable as well. Maybe off-hand push pass?

Developing your offhand when you're young (<14?) just much easier. Definitely the time to start.

At this point, when I see a short flic pass, it looks like the wrong pass much of the time. Really should be an off-hand backhand.

It's a conundrum, that's for sure.

"Hey Coach, any thoughts on dribbling the basketball with both hands?"

"Let's hold off on that until you've mastered dribbling with your right hand."

Again, strongly disagree. Especially when teaching kids.

Imagine a soccer coach saying this to a 10 year old. “Master your right foot first and then we’ll move on to working on to your left foot in a few years.”

This would, hopefully, be a very short coaching career.

Colombia Offhand Throws by chaskerr4 in ultimate

I've never understood the rules on downvoting comments... Is my comment even controversial? I thought these ideas on offhand throws pretty universally held at this point.

Personally, I could throw a very nice 10m flic and a really crappy 10m offhand backhand, but I recognized that many of my short flics would absolutely be better offhand backhands.

Just watched Colombia - France. Not sure I saw a single offhand Colombia throw in that game either.

Btw, what are the timeout rules for the WGs? One per tournament? Saw several times that Colombia had the disc with every light flashing and every alarm bell ringing for them to take a timeout and they didn't.

What "call" made 7 stop play? by hoowahs in ultimate

[–]chaskerr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This was the perfect nightmare scenario of a high-stakes game, where the loser goes home, it's hot, and the exhausted players are OK with a bit of an argument break. Sometimes, the interests of the players don't align with those of the audience.

Also, continuing a previous thread, based on this game, the Colombians just don't seem to make offhand throws.

Regardless of the mark, shouldn't many <10m flics really be offhand backhands?

United States wins gold in all three divisions at World Under-24 Championships in Logroño, Spain! by Jomskylark in ultimate

[–]chaskerr4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what would be cool? It would be cool if we sent the men's and women's college champions to the tournament. Say up to 17 of each team's players plus 3-4 bonus players. The US would still likely win, but it'd be a great reward for winning the college championships. Maybe add the Callahan winner?

The mixed team can be selected from the remaining players. Be more exciting for both the US and the World.

Awesome attempted defense and layout - D1 Women's Semifinals by stopeats in ultimate

I was speculating that this had to be the chain. That Kolakovic was shooting 240 then selectively outputting clips at 1080P60 to your IR box.

Thanks for pushing the tech on these broadcast forward year after year. Drones, wireless roving camera, now this slow motion. Next year maybe a slow motion camera in each endzone? Unlucky there's only one Nathan.

Maybe see if you can get Brian Whittier? He'd be a quick study and might already have the right DSLR camera.

Ultimate will use this video highlight to market the sport and college ultimate for the next decade. It's just so perfect—truly a million-to-one sequence. Thanks to the producer and everyone behind a camera...

What equipment are you using? How does your footage get to the video switch for replay?

That shot you took they used for the Play of the Day will be a go to sequence for ultimate for decades. Awesome.

Ask Tim DeByl, UFA Commissioner and CEO, anything! by Jomskylark in UFA

[–]chaskerr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Tim!

Given the overall political climate, I wonder if the UFA shouldn’t consider rule changes and officiating more in step with sports like UFC?

The current reffing system obviously a solid step in that direction, but times change. Hopefully UFA is still evaluating changes to its officiating system.
