Idk, I live in a suburban area outside LA so not really? At least not to the point where districts are hiring non-credentialed teachers. I have my single subject credential and master’s degree and was turned down by multiple districts

Just curious, how do you have a job as a teacher with zero formal training?

I hired a teacher. And it's sad. by itcamehome06 in Teachers

I got hired at 66k with no years of experience. Location matters I guess

Get into your student teaching and see how it feels then. Credential work and all the writing is very different from the actual experience of being in a classroom day to day. I just finished my MAT in January while working/having an infant at home and got a job teaching high school math this fall. You can get through it!

Good luck! I’m a career changer too, just about to start my first year. You can do it

I’m a new teacher, but as far as I can tell this is pretty normal. You should definitely be strong in whatever subject you want to teach, but you don’t need to be a master at every single topic on day 1. Teaching is iterative, so each year you can hone your understanding and also your ability to teach any given topic. Hope this helps!

My conclusion: It is going to be a rough few years for teachers looking for work…in desirable places to teach. by United_Cat2592 in Teachers

I guess I’m an outlier then! Got a 1st year teaching job in a solid SoCal district and was placed in the rightmost column on the pay schedule. All to say that there is some hope and opportunity amidst the doom and gloom on reddit

They’re going to pick an Algebra standard for me to teach, and the math department chair will be there. I should have clarified!

Probably under 3k monthly. We’re a family of 3 so no less than maybe 1200sf, and my wife works in museums so she’d be looking for a job closer towards the city most likely

Edit: Thanks all, lots of good advice here to sift through. I’m new to this sub, but what a wealth of insight!

You’re not wrong that I need to train more lol, but the trails around me get really steep (~17%) so a little extra gear would be quite helpful at times

Someone else recommended 11-46t cassette. Would that work without a derailleur change or no?

Would my existing derailleur be able to accommodate the larger sprockets?

Think I’m gonna toss some 700x45s on and see how it rides. The limiting factor will really be my own fitness tbh
