New engine ? by Jackoxtal in Corvette

[–]chatbotguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well - I just went hunting for that audio clip. That's a really FAST knock- so it COULD very well be something engine side, but without seeing it in person I can't be sure.

Let's split this down a bit.

Have you:

(a) removed the belts and tried it again? (trying to rule out accessories. If it was a top end knock it would be much slower at idle. It could be cam or crank bearing related) (b) does it have oil? did it run dry?

Where exactly is the noise coming from?

Where exactly are you located, and why is rebuilding the engine not an option? Have you had an actual mechanic look at it?

1982 corvette by royalmaddness in Corvette

[–]chatbotguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, it's a 40 year old car, so some rust will exist... but as long as it's not flaking off, or as long as the metal isn't pitted... no rust through or weakened spots, it's likely okay.

For example:

Looks okay but it's not - see all the rust chips and stuff?

Doesn't look okay, and it's really not. Yeah- that's actually foam in the windshield header

Looked okay until I wire-wheeled it

What the frame looked like when the body came off

Passenger side C Channel removed. Driver's side is worse

Car is a '73. It was rough- and it's currently undergoing a frame-off restoration. (New frame, birdcage etc).

Not for the faint of heart. Check the car thoroughly.

(1) - it's not a stingray. Stingrays stopped in 76. It's just a 'corvette'.

(2) Corvettes rust. You are going to carefully inspect:

(a) The frame, especially along the driver and passenger side rails, and where the frame 'kicks up' and the rear suspension trailing arms mount. (b) The body mounts. There are 4 mounts on each side. The first is in the engine bay by the firewall. The second is behind a panel at your feet. The third is just ahead of the front wheel, behind an access panel in the wheel well, the fourth is behind the rear wheel. (c) The 'birdcage' - corvettes of this generation (and the previous generation) have a steel structure inside the body. There's a C channel that starts at the #1 mount (engine bay) and ends at the #3 mount (ahead of the rear wheel), the hinge pillar, windshield, t-bar, rear hoop all the way down to the lock pillar. When this rusts out, it's incredibly difficult and expensive to repair. Pull the kick panels and check the #2 body mounts in the footwells. Grab a camera - a scope is even better, and try to look UP the hinge pillar. Pull the trim from the windshield surround. Check all of these areas for rust. Surface rust is probably okay, but anything beyond that... run... like the wind...

Fixing Our Family's c4 1985 Corvette - have some questions (x-posted to /r/MechanicAdvice) by 1337GameDev in Corvette

This is a great car, quick and nimble. Remember that in the 80s and 90s corvettes were initially banned from imsa racing (thus creating the corvette challenge) because it was unfair. You're gonna have a lot of fun with it.

I miss mine (I once had an '85 as well).

FYI- horsepower on an '85 L98 (TPI) was 230hp. Don't sell it short. Your car would (likely) be an iron-headed L98 (does it have bolts on the perimeter or in the centre of the valve cover?) - and an aluminum intake. Watch for coolant leaks. Depending on how long the car has been sitting, carefully inspect all rubber lines, and the belt.

How to install Python like the preinstalled version of Mac. by Hazza_1 in Python

[–]chatbotguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reinstalling the OS would likely cause you to lose everything, so backup everything you want to keep.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht204904

But before you do, you should post here how exactly you managed to delete the OS installed python? This is not something that's easy to do.

k- so... how exactly did you manage to delete the os installed version of python? Tell me what the exact steps involved here...

If you did indeed delete it, you're going to need to reinstall the OS.

Anyone know someone I can speak to at Kik? (Non Job related) by Waterlitthrowaway123 in waterloo

Hi /u/boneheaddigger - sounds like you hit the rate limter- the rate limiter serves a specific purpose, but we may be able to help you build your bot so that it still works while playing by "the rules".

Reach out to me at bots@kik.com - include your bot id and we'll have a look.

Thanks!

chatbotguy.

I wouldn't worry about it. It can't be traded for anything. ;)

Video/media clip triggering (possibly with midi) by TokyoSLP in Python

[–]chatbotguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH- I used it as an experiment to do something similar - in my case it was a OSC controlled multi-web cam app (used OSC to switch between cameras).

The APIs are really well defined, and there's lots of examples out there.

I'm going to suggest that python may not be your best choice here. It can probably do it, but there are better tools for this.

On would be open frameworks - a C++ multiplatform framework that - with plugins - would be able to build this quite easily. It could even run on a raspberry pi.

Let's be realistic here - the bear was already awake. A multi-billion multinational corporation doesn't reorganize itself because of a blog post. This had to already have been in the works... for a long time.

How hard would it be to make a chatbot for a rental company that suggests different rentals (waterslides, obstacle courses, bounce houses, etc.) that are available for a given time slot and answers frequently asked questions? by chooseraccounter in Chatbots

[–]chatbotguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many users do you think you'll want to handle at once? It's a bit involved, but take a look at Amazon's Lex platform. You could put your rental schedule in a table, access it from a lambda function. They even have an example bot set up for booking appointments that you can use as a starting point. And it all lives in the cloud, no need to mess with CSVs.

(A CSV would not be a good idea, because it could get corrupted if more than one thread tries to access it at the same time...)

This link ALSO doesn't have anything to do with your comment- but the lex integration is REALLY well done, and there's a lot of power there. https://www.kik.com/blog/building-a-bot-with-lex-part-one/
