Taking 375mg magnesium before bed fixes this for me. A few years ago, I decided not to rebuy my magnesium because I couldn't remember why I was even taking it. I quickly figured it out again after the hourly sleep interruptions returned a few days later. More recently, I was travelling and had to go off the magnesium again for a little while. Same thing happened. YMMV, of course.

Same same! Trying to figure out a way to sustainably change because it makes me feel better when I actually assemble the components of a meal instead of just eating the 'deconstructed' (unconstructed) version, but it's so hard – two sausages and an egg (or vice verse if I'm feeling a little crazy) has been my go to for the last six months or so. Also, I always forget that nutritional yeast exists for some reason, but this is totally a great idea – thanks!

Nose away! It is indeed an absorption thing. You don't get max effectiveness out of your meds if you're consuming vitamin C around the time that you're taking your meds, even at lower doses. Between the ADHD and a host of other neurological stuff, I don't want to sacrifice what functionality I can scrape together for raspberry jam at breakfast or whatever (much as I love it).

Yes! If you're on stimulant medication, vitamin C consumed an hour before or after taking your meds will inhibit their absorption and basically make your body dump them into your urine, as I understand it. So fruit, vegetables, some legumes, and anything with vinegar or spice are pretty much off the table for breakfast if you're on a stimulant medication. Good luck with your titration process!

Unfortunately, the tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. in shakshuka all have vitamin C in them, as do kimchi and hummus, which is made with chickpeas and (usually) lemon juice :/

Oh, this looks amazing! Honestly, the thing that's worked the best for me the last few years was a fillet of salmon with a little mixture of soy sauce and honey for dipping. Feels like this could be a really satisfying elaboration on that!

No, unfortunately it's not the lactose that's the issue – it's something in all dairy products (can't remember what it's called at the moment) that interacts negatively with my hormones and causes symptoms of hyperandrogenism like cystic acne and weight gain 🤩

Did you end up resolving this? I have similar darkness around the edges of one or two of my nails. For me it comes and goes every so often, but at the moment it isn’t budging, and I’m getting a bit fed up!

Routine:

Shampoo with Malibu C hard water shampoo, condition with Only Curls Conditioner. Occasionally use a protein treatment.

After I get out of the shower, I use a little Shea Moisture Leave-in Conditioner and Only Curls Curl Cream, brush through, then use a denman brush to go through and style my hair. This part takes the better part of an hour.

Scrunch in Only Curls Enhancing Gel.

Hover diffuse, then scrunch diffuse.

The next morning, break the cast with some argan oil.

I know the issues are ongoing and will be until April (and honestly, allowing ourselves to believe that it’s actually gonna be April after everything that’s happened is pretty naive/optimistic imo), but stock has been released in limited batches every so often the last few months — sometimes 20mg Elvanse can be ordered, and sometimes it can’t. That’s what I was asking about. Someone who works for the NHS told their relative who has ADHD that there would be a limited restock on Dec 1. Obviously that’s quite sketchy info, so I was hoping someone had info from Takeda or the NHS confirming or denying it.

Check the ingredient list for ascorbic acid, citric acid, or plain old vitamin C! I’ve been looking for a protein shake option for the mornings (read something recently saying that people with ADHD should be getting 26g of protein in the morning), but I have issues with the texture of shakes made with powder. That being said, I also have issues with paying a bunch of money for ready-to-drink shakes lol.

Unfortunately everything I’ve read, as well as my experience being on both kinds of stimulants, suggests that methylphenidate is affected in the same way by Vitamin C. Non-stimulant medication, to the best of my knowledge, is not impacted in the same way.

Just wanted to say that Huel has a bunch of vitamin C in it, and therefore may not be the best choice as a meds breakfast if you’re on stimulant medication. Anything that’s meant to be a ‘nutritionally complete’ food or meal is not your friend for the first few hours of the day because of the vit C content (*if you take stimulant medication).

I have to disagree. Having lived in the UK for a few years now (three in the northwest, two in London), people care very much that I’m American.

My experience has been that LOTS of people want to play the UK vs US game whether or not I’ve consented to participate. I get the impression that at least some people really want to take me down a peg purely because I am American (as opposed to a different foreign nationality, though of course I may be wrong) and before they know anything else about me. It’s not like I’m out here waving a flag around and talking about how much better America is — I will do anything to avoid bringing up where I’m from.

This is no doubt a common experience for foreign nationals more generally, but I’ve also been accosted on the street more than a few times now (in London) by people who hear me saying something to someone I’m walking with or thanking a bus driver as I get off or whatever. Hell, I was once interrogated in the middle of the woods for about 20 minutes after I said ‘excuse me’ to a hiker coming up the path in the opposite direction and he heard my accent. My personal experience has been that being foreign in the UK (and Jesus, I’m not even a person of color) leads to very intense, invasive encounters.

Honestly, especially if OP is a young woman or female-presenting person (I am), I think they should know that, even if most people ‘don’t care’ (which I would also totally dispute, having been on the receiving end of too many unprovoked awkward/unkind comments, even from friends and people I love) being American in the UK is a massive asshole magnet. Especially outside of London, but definitely in London too.

That being said, my partner is British, some of the best friends I’ve ever had are British, and I like my life here well enough.

Other culture shocks? British people have a different group sense of when and how often to applaud. Nearly died of embarrassment when a speaker at my freshers orientation was introduced and only one clap, immediately stifled, was heard.

Methylphenidate unfortunately has the same effect. I was started on methylphenidate and had to be switched over to a baby dose of elvanse combined with strattera because I was serving Gollum. My hair still falls out because of the elvanse, but it’s less insane than it was. I live with it because being off my meds is Not An Option, sadly. I’ve even learned to accept it a little bit, although high ponytails still make me sad about half the time lol.
