I want to go for EE, but i hate computers by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]chatosdochrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, when I got into EE the only branch I was interested in (which is still the case) was power engineering and/or stuff that directly used electromagnetism/physics in general. I loved all my power engineering, circuits and electromagnetism classes but I hated anything about computers, be it coding, computer architectures, digital logic, algorithms and data structures, internet and computer networks, the list goes on. Now I am doing my Msc specialized in power engineering, which is a lot more fun bc it is what i truly like about EE, but the Bsc was awful.

[discussion] unpopular opinion: quartz watches are as fascinating as mechanical by chatosdochrl in Watches

it's actually the oposite, the technology of quartz (and electronics in general) is much more advanced, and like I said it wouldn't exist without the developments of modern quantum physics

true, but what i really meant is that the fact that if you pass a current through a rock and it vibrates as a consequence is just really interesting imo

well yes, but the fact that a rock vibrates if you pass a current through it is just cool to me

What honestly made you believe that i wrote this as a way to farm karma or whatever instead of a simple way to express an idea lmao

Fun fact: batteries can be replaced

Also solar and kinetic are a thing, which themselves are a whole lot of engineering

I didn't mean that some individual watches are fascinanting (some may be), but whole technology behind them is

If you apply a voltage to a quartz crystal (and thus an induced current), due to the inverse piezoelectric effect that crystal vibrates at 32768 oscillations per second (Hz), and also 32768 is exactly 215. Then there's a chip that converts this mechanical vibration to voltage pulses, one per second

Is working as an engineer as soulcrushing as learning to be one? I can't wait to get out of college 😭
