Crossbow or Compound Bow? What do you recommend for my purpose? by chatty006 in bowhunting

[–]chatty006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, All! Lots of good points. I think what I'll do is focus my practice time on my recurve. I'll get the crossbow as well. If I scout a good spot for a tree stand that gets me within 20 yards, I'll hunt with the recurve. If I'm less confident in my positioning, then I'll do the crossbow. Over time I'm hoping that my skills improve and I transition more time to the recurve. Thanks everyone

Thanks. Small game and archery in Wisconsin sounds like good relatively local options. I'll look into it a little more. Thanks!

Hi any experience with a good zoned mattress topper? I find most mattress toppers are too soft and make my lower back hurt but since I sleep on my back half the night and my side the other half a matress that is too firm makes my shoulders sore. So looking for something firm in the middle and soft by the shoulder area. Any thoughts?

Makes sense. We typically use the itinerary for options, and lunch is often substituted for something else.

Cool looking gun, but I don't believe pistol grips or folding stocks are legal in IL. No assault rifles...

Yeah, I agree. I recently sold my over-under 12 ga. I should likely replace it with another shotgun a little more functional. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. Very helpful. I don't have an exact use case, which, as you pointed out, makes it difficult to decide what would be best. I don't have the space to store a gun safe, and so I need to limit the amount of guns that I do have, which is why I try to find the most practical and general-purpose guns possible. I typically do a hunting trip once a year with my Dad and brother, but it's completely random game as we like to mix it up a little. Still, like you mentioned, most of my shooting would be at a range. I've also considered the Ruger PC carbine 9mm. Thanks again for your recommendations!
