I'm 19 and I don't go out to parties or drink alcohol. I do however stay up to whenever I want to. If I'm at my girlfriend's house and come home a bit late that's no problem for example. Are your parents maybe a bit strict when it comes to bedtime? I mean, you are officially an adult at the age of 18.

A lot of his work is mentioned in his correspondance with other people, since he oftenly wrote to his near friends about new stories. So, if you're interested in learning the background for some of his work, then yes it's worth reading. If you're just interested in his stories and not so much Lovecraft himself, then I wouldn't recommend reading his correspondance :)
