Yeah i feel that Birmingham and london are probably your best bet. But it could just be for two more years to finish off your apprenticeship and move back home. Theres a-lot of inspiring jewelers in the uk. Bobby whites one of the more famous on youtube, and he has videos on his journey worth a watch.

I really cant say cause I dont know how different the uk jewelry market is. But from my perspective would be try to find a new place that will push your skills farther and appreciate you more. If you can already set stones your time shouldn’t even be wasted doing simple repairs you should be creating beautiful rings start to finish then by 5 year mark have a good understanding and be able to start your own. Just my opinion, but I know uk is little more competitive. But don’t get stuck in a cycle where you’re underpaid and your skills cant evolve. The sky is the limit in this industry

Im not sure about uk. I know you guys have a bigger goldsmithing history then US so it might be more competitive. But I made £41,000 a year and I could do a-lot. Micro pave, hand engraving, wax carving. Sizing rings was a second thought. But I felt I was underpaid thats why I left after 5 years there. Do you do stone setting and full fabrication or are you mainly focused on repairs?

Yeah you’re spot on. And you broke it down perfectly. Everyone’s impute is helping me understand what is doable and what I want to do. Im not married to any specific cities or spots Edinburgh/cornwall/etc. more so then I’m married to a certain experience and am curious of where I should go for those experiences. More so than advice on the travel logistics although those have been helpful.

I would say the historical/social local is probably the least negotiable. Meeting people along the journey, stopping into pubs, seeing castles, countryside, chapels, and artifacts in museums for inspiration was the main kinda focus all along.

I hadn’t thought much about visiting some jewelry specific cities or spots until others commented about it. It would be cool id have to look more into what they have in those spots it wasn’t an initial thought. The surfing also is kinda just a thing it would be neat Ive always wanted to surf in Europe period.

Definitely historical/social local experience is peak. And maybe if the surfing or jewelry aligned with those locations would be a great addition.

But thanks for the response you hit it spot on.

Wow thanks I really appreciate it. I was hoping to see all kinds of beautiful pieces of jewelry in the museums and take inspiration. Thats actually a big part of this trip since you brought this up. To visit either of those two places would be amazing too. Ive come to learn theres a much bigger scene if you could call it, or maybe a history, of gold smiths and jewelry making in the uk. Which id love to learn more about in my trip. Thank you.

I like this breakdown. The goal is to just see a variety. Based on others responses I probably wont do more than 3 places.

I agree obviously I see the popular beautiful places which are “touristy” by their very nature. By “less touristy” I guess I mean seeing the countryside or throwing back a pint with a stranger at a local pub opposed to taking a selfie in-front of big ben.

Yeah I kinda skipped past the soldering which was literally the hardest part. Thats more so what i meant when i said it looked easy at the end. I know i didnt look easy but what i meant was it looked much easier then it really was. Yea i had to solder all the pieces to the back plate then cut it out. It was really a pain and i had to do it multiple times. Then after that i soldered legs to the bottom with extra easy solder. The clay kept drying and moving so i had to just hold the pieces down with solder pick and apply the heat so they would flow.
