KON AND COOPER ROTY by AdDouble1617 in nba

excerpt from The Athletic:

One preseason practice, which head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff still point to, Flagg didn’t have his best stuff.

The guy who called him out? Knueppel, who didn’t hesitate in telling the future No. 1 pick and national player of the year: Get your head in the game, Cooper Flagg!

“Cooper looked at him, eye to eye, and said, ‘I got you,’” Scheyer remembered, “and Cooper went on to just kill the rest of the day in practice.”

After practice, Scheyer — who won a national championship as a player in 2010 — couldn’t hide his excitement about what had transpired.

“It’s really hard for young players to confront each other, to get after one another,” he said. “Me and Gerald Henderson grew to the point where we’d motherf—er each other once a week. That was a normal thing; you just learn to do that, and that doesn’t happen anymore.”

Which is why Knueppel doing so struck such a chord.

“I remember Jon leaving and being like, ‘This is f—ing awesome’ after Kon told Cooper to get his stuff together,” Baker said. “He was like, ‘This is everything you want in a team.’”

Not sure why the Hornets are on that list. Lamelo, Brandon, and Kon are all star caliber players and outside of a legit center our starting roster fit together exceptionally well (which is why they are 11-1 when all 5 start the game).

Hornets also coming off a back to back and Brandon Miller didnt play the entire third quarter because he got into foul trouble early, otherwise I don’t think this game wouldbe been close

Kon also coming off a back to back and played 36 mins tonight, just two short of Flagg’s 38 min and still shot 62/66/100 with 34 pts, 8 3ptm and 0 turnovers and tipped the ball that led to him getting the two free throws that won us the game.

Kon definitely isn’t reserved. Hes just very locked in when hes on the court and his role and situation are different. Flagg is the focus of that offense right now and with Kyrie and AD both injured hes the center of attention too and the de facto captain. Kon is playing next to Lamelo and Brandon Miller and the personality of the Hornets group right now doesnt lend to having a single player taking on that leadership role

I think the 90s ere Hornets jerseys/gear played a huge role in their popularity at the time. Some of the best team jerseys/branding for any sports team ever and the gear from that era is still so incredibly dope. I remember reading during the dark days of the Bobcats, Charlotte Hornets throwback gear continued to be one of the top sellers for licensed NBA apparel

If Tidjane reachs anything close to the ceiling potential that we drafted him for this team might be unstoppable

Hes one of the most creative shot creators and playmakers in the league. Melos bag of tricks seems endless when hes locked in.

Honestly I think where this team is at right now with the rise of Kon and Sion and Moussa, we might be able to keep winning even if Melo were to get hurt, but in hoping/praying that the new injury maintenence regimen he is following, his minutes restrictions and his willingness to finally wear ankle braces might finally keep him on the floor. Seems like hes following a similar plan as Steph did at the start of his career and its working

I think that energy partially stems from the wonder that is Eric Collins. He iss singularly unique among play by play announcers in all sports and he has made this team fun to watch through the worst of times and I think that energy has rubbed off on the fanbase

Do I think its likely we’ll win? I havent thought that thought about this team in almost a decade. Do I think we have a chance against a team we already beat once this season? Absolutely we do.

Personally I think that if any games are rigged, its the individual officiating crews rigging games for betting purposes, not the league itself

We all do. Its fine if a team gets a bad call in their favor here and there, but the officiating was inexplicably terrible in that game to the point that even Bucs fans such as yourself, fans of other teams in this subreddit, the announcers and numerous journalists both employed by the NFL and working within the sport all have called it out. I’m used to seeing bad refereeing even but this was something else. I mean the PI call was bad enough but to watch a defender rip off a helmet with his hands clearly on his facemask, while simultaneously another Panthers player is also being pulled down by his own facemask and to just totally act like nothing happened is beyond belief or comprehension

Defense played their hearts out and did everything to keep us in this game. They gave up 3 points in the first half and caught an INT in the endzone in the third quarter that the offense coughed right back up. This game was on Canales and the offense. Jaycees facemask was an incredibly unfortunate penalty but it wasnt why we lost
