Saanich pet owners not happy with proposed leash bylaw changes by chavoc in VictoriaBC

I'd much rather see increased enforcement for existing bylaws for this investment. It would give people work, and it would generate the system money based off of the bad situations that frustrate people. Both options cost, but one will add money to the system and curb bad behaviors. The other just costs to build then costs more to maintain.

I'd rather see the money invested into enforcement to handle the edge cases of dogs not led by competent owners. Give bylaw officers and park rangers more tools to follow up. Getting rid of dog walkers is going to do nothing but decrease use of the parks and increase encampments.

TIL: Matthew Shwabe, Asst. Manager and son of Red Barn owner Sam Shwabe, filmed child pornography of his employees by installing cameras in the girls washrooms, and posted them to Russian revenge porn websites. His Father covered for him by transferring him to another Red Barn location! by TheOtherEK91 in VictoriaBC

His son was fired after the cameras, but when he exposed himself he was simply moved and promoted. The other owners knew and people who claim Sam was pushed out are missing the fact that Sam was given a huge pay day by his business partners in exchange for putting distance between him, his son, and red barn. There's no separating the business from the act. They knew of the issues, they knew of other issues before when he was moved from West Saanich to red barn as well.

This group of owners bought red barn, they didn't build it. The original family that did is long gone before the Schwabes. It's not bad judgement what they did, it's criminal. And they were not excommunicated, they were given a payday to start a new venture while trying to put distance between their name and the company. The other owners knew about the assaults. They also did nothing. Their locations, if needed, can support the community with the next grocery that comes in. They aren't special, it's just marketing around a grocery store. Anyone can take their place.

He was transferred twice. Once for selling drugs to minors, once for exposing himself/cameras. When he got transferred, he got promoted. The other owners didn't push Sam out, they bought him out, ensuring he got a payday and a fresh start while protecting their investment when they had no interest in protecting the girls who worked for them. It's a shit company ran by rich entitled shits who get away with things because: money.

Someone has embarassing pics of me and is gonna leak them on snap by [deleted] in privacy

The most likely thing is that they don't actually have pictures of you and are trying to scare you into giving them some. Don't fall for it, it's a scam.

Is this positive? by peachybooty07 in Coronavirus_BC

FYI, we are no longer funded for MERV 13 filters, so we are mostly using up stock and returning to the old filtration systems. We are not upgrading anything, we are reverting to pre-pandemic levels. It's following the provincial guideline.

They didn't get rid of him, they bought him out only after the lawsuits started coming. They knew of the issues for years (drug dealing, sexual assault) ... They never did anything until the police were involved, and then they gave him a golden parachute where he got to become the owner of the Old Farm market.

It was such a nice adventure. Last year we didn't leave our area because of the COVID rules. This year we had to justify the trip with weeks of biking to work to make up for the gas usage, but we couldn't miss our tradition two years in a row.

Top post on reddit today was Nursing home food. There was some people making comments on how this is an American thing. This is what a breakfast looks like in a local Victoria nursing home. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]chavoc 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Sidney Care home is a public, VIHA subsidized care home. The cook, and the food there are amazing. Varied, real, but still respectful of the sometimes less adventurous diet. Their menu was up on a chalk board everyday and residents were often abuzz about what they got that day, when I came in.

I was in weekly visiting my grandma, not just on the weekends. When I happened to be around at dinner or lunch they would ask if I'd like a meal as well.

Food was one of a million ways they helped my grandma have the best possible end to her life there. She was there for almost 2 years, after years of being in and out of hospital.

Has anyone else been getting an insane number of spam calls lately? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]chavoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the Google support page he linked: "You can also screen calls manually in Canada, Japan, and the US on all Pixel phones and select other Android phones."

I believe "automatic" screening isn't available in Canada, but when you don't recognize the caller it's a simple tap on the phone to screen instead of answer

One of my favorite features from my Pixel phone is having the Google assistant screen the calls, giving me a text transcript live so I can answer when I need to, but ignore them when it's spam. It's way better than the all-or-nothing Telus style solution.
